Bowyer To Be Sidelined By Operation
Lee Bowyer scored twice in West Ham's 5-0 rout of struggling Derby County today - but he now faces a spell on the sidelines because he undergies surgery next week.

West Ham's Lee Bowyer is due to have a hernia operation on Tuesday.

The surgery has been postponed because of the Hammers' severe injury crisis. As a result, the former Charlton, Leeds and Newcastle midfielder has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks to help manager Alan Curbishley cope with the depleted numbers.

After he scored two goals in West Ham's 5-0 thrashing of Derby, Curbishley has now booked Bowyer into hospital.

"Unfortunately he's been one who's been playing with an injury," Curbishley told Sky Sports.

"He's having an operation on Tuesday, so he's going to be out for a while."

Bowyer himself confirmed: "I'm playing with a hernia. I get that done on Tuesday."
