Roma defender Juan has revealed that the football-related violence in Italy is making him fear for his family. The Brazilian star only moved to Serie A in the summer, following his transfer from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, however he has already witnessed the more unsavoury side of Italian football.
“I fear for my family,” Juan told Globo Esporte.
“My family always come to see me play during games – my wife comes and so do my sons.”
Juan’s Brazilian national team-mates, Maicon and Julio Cesar, who also play in Serie A, have outlined similar concerns.
“In Italy at this moment the climate is not right to play. The championship should not go ahead at this time – there have been some serious incidents,” said Inter defender Maicon.
“It is a tense situation,” added Maicon’s Nerazzuri colleague Julio Cesar. “In such a delicate situation I do not know how things can continue.”
