Gunners will prove doubters wrong

Gunners will prove doubters wrong, says Fabregas

Written by: AFP

Cesc Fabregas, seen here in November 2007, has warned that Arsenal are out to prove their doubters wrong by winning the Premier League title as they embark on an ambitious year.

LONDON (AFP) - Cesc Fabregas has warned that Arsenal are out to prove their doubters wrong by winning the Premier League title as they embark on an ambitious year.

Arsenal will begin their bid to stretch their one-point league lead over Manchester United with a trip to Portsmouth Wednesday, before travelling to Merseyside to face Everton on Saturday.

And Fabregas, 20, believes the team, in spite of Thierry Henry's departure to Barcelona, have the strength in depth to succeed both in England and in Europe.

The Spanish midfielder told Sky Sports: "The team is hungry and wants to achieve something to prove people wrong.

"We want to achieve a lot of things over the next 12 months. If we could win everything that would be perfect - but the Premier League is the competition it would be amazing to win."

Fabregas believes the departure of Henry has brought an era of opportunity for a group of players who had been playing in the shadow of the great French forward.

"I have more responsibility than before," he said.

"When you looked at Arsenal a year or two years ago you just saw Thierry Henry. It was a little bit like the other players did not exist.

"But when he left it was an opportunity for everybody to show we are a team and a good club.

"Even if the best player in the world is leaving us we can still achieve something."

yeh wenger has dun good job so far. i thought arsenal were in trouble after losing henry. He hasnt really settled in barcelona yet. I think Fabregas is awesome, he is starting to come out more now henry is gone. Ashame they couldnt hold on to Reyes, imagine what that will be like now. Wish robert pires never left, he was awesome. Dissapointed at ashley cole, he would have been good if he stayed. Manuel Almunia is great. hope this Lehman thing goes away quicky. Good thing about wenger is he knows how to bring each player out of its shell. Remeber when he first brought henry from disastrous stint in Juventus, he was a winger back then. And look how he transformed him to world class player. Same for Fabregas, im sure they will lift trophies this year, even thought theyr a point behind man utd, but anything can happen
