Arsenal boss Wenger: Cesc will stay grounded

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident Cesc Fabregas will stay grounded after another goal scoring performance in their 5-0 victory over Derby.

Wenger explained: "I wanted to take him off because he had a little calf problem at half-time but he took advantage of that by scoring a goal. He scored a great goal again.

"Cesc is naturally very hard on himself. That struck me even when he was 16. He is very demanding of himself. He has his feet on the ground and I think he will deal well with that situation.

"We have played six games, four times at home, so we are conscious next week at West Ham will be another test. We won in a convincing way at Tottenham, we could have won at Blackburn so let us keep it going.

"There is still room for improvement and the target is to get better and better and hopefully peak in April and May."

He has been pretty good lately, even better when injury free, I hope that this calf thing isn't that serious

Cesc Fabregas' agent has refused to rule out a move to Barcelona after denying any contact with the Spanish giants about a possible switch.
Reports in Spain have claimed Barcelona are lining up a move for Fabregas as they look to reunite him with Thierry Henry.
Fabregas started his career at Barcelona before Arsenal stole in to lure him away from Camp Nou to North London.
The classy midfielder has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.
Fabregas has never hidden his desire to return to Spain one day and both Barcelona and Real Madrid are believed to be monitoring his situation.
The 21-year-old's agent Joseba Diaz says he has had no contact with Barcelona, but that Fabregas would be flattered by any interest from the Catalan titans.

Compliment

"Neither the player nor I have considered the news, really, and all we're thinking about is the match against Denmark. What will be, will be," Diaz told Radio Marca. "But if we do hear of an offer from Barcelona, the club that taught him so much, then that would be a real compliment to Cesc."
Arsenal are unlikely to entertain any overtures for Fabregas, with the player tied down to a long-term contract at Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, Barcelona could find themselves in a dispute with Arsenal youngster Fran Merida over his compensation fee.
Diaz also represents Merida, who like Fabregas left Barcelona for the capital at the age of 16.
Merida's move to Arsenal infuriated Barcelona, who took the player to court accusing him of breaking an agreement with them to move to England.
An independent tribunal ruled earlier this week that Merida must pay Barcelona €3.2million (£2.23 million) in compensation for leaving the club.
Arsenal are expected to fork out for the compensation package, but Diaz has revealed he is ready to appeal the decision.

Continue fighting

"We are not in agreement with the opinion, so we will continue fighting until the end if it is necessary," noted Diaz. "This issue has not finished."

I don't see cesc going back to Barca. No way. He made his decision at a young age and at the way things are going right now I can't see him going back on that. He drives the Arsenal team now Henry is gone.

Agent: Arsenal's Cesc would welcome Barcelona offer

The agent of Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas won't rule out a return to Barcelona for the midfielder.

Joseba Diaz told Marca: "I have spoken with Cesc and neither of us know anything about interest from Barca.

"And if there is interest... hopefully there is, because they're a great club, a team that plays the best football and Cesc was very happy there.

"If an offer arrived from Barca, clearly we would listen to it, it is the club that has taught Cesc everything when he was small."

Cesc's Agent Won't Rule Out Barcelona Move
Marca's attempts to liven up the international break continue apace as they speak to Francesc Fabregas' agent regarding a possible move from Arsenal to the Nou Camp...

Francesc Fabregas' agent admits that he's not heard of any interest from Barcelona regarding his client's services, but won't rule out such a move in future should the blaugrana make an approach for the midfielder.

"I've spoken with Cesc and we're not aware of anything from Barcelona," Joseba Diaz told Radio Marca.

"We have hope, because this is a big, big team that plays superb football, and Cesc was very comfortable there."

Indeed, before joining Arsenal, Cesc made his name in the youth ranks at the Nou Camp, although he did not manage to play a first team game for the Culers.

Still, for now, Cesc remains an Arsenal and Spain player, with priorities to match.

"Neither the player nor I have considered the news, really, and all we're thinking about is the match against Denmark. What will be, will be," continued Diaz.

"But if we do hear of an offer from Barcelona, the club that taught him so much, then that would be a real compliment to Cesc."

Nonetheless, Fabregas himself seems reluctant to commit to any move, given the current state of affairs at the Emirates.

Cesc has well and truly established himself as a key midfielder for the Gunners and, what's more, shares a fantastic working relationship with Arsene Wenger, the man who brought him to London.

The player said of his boss and mentor, "He left his vacation and his family to come and see me in Barcelona before I was a somebody. That was special for me."

Joseba Diaz, too, may complicate the deal by virtue of being involved in a dispute between Fran Merida and Barcelona, the 17 year old player - now of Arsenal - being forced to pay massive compensation for derelicting his contract at the Nou Camp. Diaz, who represents the player, has said that Merida will contest the decision.

Fabregas committed to Gunners

Written by: AFP

Arsenal´s Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas celebrates after a goal during a Premiership match wit Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in London, April 2007. Fabregas has dismissed speculation he is eyeing a move back to his native Spain, insisting he wants to see out his career with Arsenal.
LONDON (AFP) - Midfielder Cesc Fabregas dismissed speculation he is eyeing a move back to his native Spain, insisting Monday he wants to see out his career with Arsenal.

The 20-year-old has starred in Arsenal's unbeaten start to the season but has been linked with an eventual return to either Barcelona, which he left as a 16-year-old for London, or Real Madrid.

"When I first came to England my idea was to go back to Spain one day," Fabregas said in The Sun.

"But the truth is that now I'm happier every day and I love London, the people and the club.

"I'm going to say the truth - every day I have more desire to stay here for a long time, for the rest of my career.

"I haven't had the fortune of playing in the Spanish league and right now I really identify with football in the Premier League because it's so passionate, fast, attacking and vibrant. It's the football that I like the most."

Arsenal's Cesc on scoring: It's about keeping cool

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas says a quiet word from manager Arsene Wenger set him on his scoring ways this season.

"I think I'm playing the same as ever but the ball is going in for me, which makes it look like I am playing better," Fabregas explained.

"I was getting in front of goal and being hasty - but one day Mr Wenger told me to relax and now I take my time."

Cesc FABREGAS is Arsenal's top scorer with 11 goals. He is the joint highest scoring Premier League player in all competitions, with Cristiano RONALDO of Manchester United.

Gunners will prove doubters wrong, says Fabregas

Written by: AFP

Cesc Fabregas, seen here in November 2007, has warned that Arsenal are out to prove their doubters wrong by winning the Premier League title as they embark on an ambitious year.

LONDON (AFP) - Cesc Fabregas has warned that Arsenal are out to prove their doubters wrong by winning the Premier League title as they embark on an ambitious year.

Arsenal will begin their bid to stretch their one-point league lead over Manchester United with a trip to Portsmouth Wednesday, before travelling to Merseyside to face Everton on Saturday.

And Fabregas, 20, believes the team, in spite of Thierry Henry's departure to Barcelona, have the strength in depth to succeed both in England and in Europe.

The Spanish midfielder told Sky Sports: "The team is hungry and wants to achieve something to prove people wrong.

"We want to achieve a lot of things over the next 12 months. If we could win everything that would be perfect - but the Premier League is the competition it would be amazing to win."

Fabregas believes the departure of Henry has brought an era of opportunity for a group of players who had been playing in the shadow of the great French forward.

"I have more responsibility than before," he said.

"When you looked at Arsenal a year or two years ago you just saw Thierry Henry. It was a little bit like the other players did not exist.

"But when he left it was an opportunity for everybody to show we are a team and a good club.

"Even if the best player in the world is leaving us we can still achieve something."

Cesc Fabregas has warned Arsenal's Barclays Premier League rivals the Gunners are hungry to prove people wrong, by winning the silverware this season.

The 20-year-old Spanish midfielder reports the table-toppers in determined mood as they bid to enhance their lead over a Christmas period which includes a trip to Portsmouth on Boxing Day and then perhaps an even trickier assignment at Everton on Saturday.

"The team is hungry and wants to achieve something to prove people wrong," Fabregas told Sky Sports News.

"We want to achieve a lot of things over the next 12 months. If we could win everything that would be perfect - but the Premier League is the competition it would be amazing to win."
