Yeah I know why. Kim Nam Il, Park Ji Sung and Lee Young Pyo, all injured. Ahn Jung Hwan is well into his thirties so Verbeek chose Dong Guk over him.

Australian Soccer Latest News

yes its true:
Manchester United sign nine-year-old YouTube wonder kid

By Simon Rabinovitch

LONDON, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Manchester United have signed a gifted nine-year-old after his grandfather sent the Premier League champions a DVD showcasing the boy's talents which has become a YouTube sensation.

Rhain Davis, who was born in England but has lived in Australia since the age of four, was hailed by the British press on Thursday as the next Wayne Rooney after the United striker.

The boy's dribbling and goalscoring prowess for an Under-10 side in Brisbane, Australia, feature in a four-minute YouTube clip, already viewed more than 800,000 times.

United confirmed the signing but played down the hype around Davis, who has moved back to Cheshire in northern England with his father, near the club's training ground.

"He's a member of our academy and we don't comment on individual members," a United spokesman told Reuters.

He added that the club sign about 40 players of Davis's age every year and, as is standard, will decide annually whether to renew his contract or release him.

What was so unusual in Davis's case was that his skills were brought to the attention of United's youth scouts by the DVD submission, which could inspire other hopefuls, the spokesman said.

"We're bracing ourselves for a whole series of DVDs," he added.

Davis has been thrilled at the chance to rub shoulders with some of his idols.

"The best part has been meeting lots of players like Wayne Rooney," he told British newspapers.

untill al taragy scored a goal from a long ball from way behind

i dont noe how the defenders left the guy do that its really unfair to all ahly fans but yet if al hilal tie or lose its goin to be abig chance for alahly to qualify

WASHINGTON (AP) -- David Beckham made his long-awaited Major League Soccer debut Thursday night, entering in the 72nd minute of the Los Angeles Galaxy's game against D.C. United.

The sellout crowd of more than 46,686 at RFK Stadium let out a thunderous roar as the 32-year-old English midfielder with the tender ankle stripped off his warmup jacket and T-shirt, displaying his bare chest in a steady rain. He then put on his No. 23 jersey and entered the game in place of Quavas Kirk with the Galaxy trailing 1-0.

His appearance as a substitute was the latest milestone in his move to the United States, a signing that has created unprecedented publicity for a league that hopes to elevate itself above niche status in a crowded sports landscape. Beckham's first news conference and first appearance in uniform were huge events by themselves -- now he has actually played in a competitive game.

Beckham's debut had been delayed by a sprained ankle, sustained while playing for England on June 6 and aggravated in his Real Madrid finale 11 days later. Since joining the Galaxy, he had played in only one match -- a 16-minute appearance as a substitute in an exhibition against England's Chelsea.

Beckham had since left fans disappointed by missing all three of the Galaxy's SuperLiga games as well as Sunday's scoreless draw at Toronto, where he watched the game from the bench in a suit.

Beckham did some limited training on the ankle this week but did not take part in the 40-minute pregame warmup on the field with his teammates. Still, he was among seven substitutes on the Galaxy's lineup sheet.

Beckham emerged from the home baseball dugout at RFK Stadium shortly before kickoff, waved a few times to the crowd, then took his seat on the bench. He was also the only Galaxy substitute to wear his warmup jacket on the bench, despite the oppressive August humidity.

The crowd roared and flashbulbs popped when Beckham got off the bench and began warming up in the 36th minute. He skipped, stretched and ran light sprints along the sideline for the rest of the first half, even as a brief, light rain began to fall. The rain returned and became heavy in the second half, but that didn't deter Beckham from continuing his warmups as the game progressed.

The crowd was the fourth largest to watch an MLS game at RFK, and more than twice United's previous largest home draw this year. Tailgaters took their spots in the parking lots several hours before kickoff, and a group of United fans -- known to sing loud and long during every match -- hung a huge banner that read "We sing better than your wife," a reference to Beckham's pop-singing wife, Victoria.

Also in attendance was England coach Steve McClaren, who is interested in Beckham's status for an Aug. 22 exhibition game against Germany and European Championship qualifiers against Israel on Sept. 8 and Russia four days later.

LA Galaxy ace Beckham makes MLS debut
tribalfooball.com - August 09, 2007

England ace David Beckham has made his MLS debut for LA Galaxy in tonight's clash at DC United. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star was a substitute midway through the second-half and showed no ill-effects from his long-standing ankle injury.
Beckham was played in a central role by Galaxy coach Frank Yallop and was quickly pulling the strings in midfield. But the England man was fighting an uphill battle after DC striker Emilio Luciano fired the hosts into the lead in the first-half and Galaxy had Kyle Martino sent-off before Becks' introduction.
"It's a lot better tonight than it has been for a while," Beckham told ESPN when asked at the final whistle about his ankle. "I was happy to get on the field tonight, but disappointed to lose.
"We have to look forward to the next game and work hard. We have a lot of talent in this team and it's now a process of translating that onto the field."
Over 46,000 fans were in attendance to see Beckham's debut, including England boss Steve McClaren, with DC running out rightful winners.
Meanwhile, in Australia, LA Galaxy's first overseas tour game with Beckham is heading for a stunning sell-out in Sydney. The match is to be staged in November and has already sold over 60,000 tickets. Both Football Federation Australia and broadcast partners Channel Ten are cock-a-hoop with the response from Australian fans.
