2 teams that are a little off. This might have been better if it was at Villa Park but it's in Sunderland. So sloppy play will give us a 1-0 Villa win.

Kieran Richardson (back) has returned to training but Nyron Nosworthy (hamstring) and Carlos Edwards (broken leg) are still weeks from a return.

However, manager Martin O'Neill has no fresh injury worries as the smallest squad in the top flight prepares for the demanding festive programme.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane:
"The players have got to enjoy playing in front of the supporters because they have driven us on, particularly late in games when we've scored a few late goals.

"That might be the case for the rest of the season and teams like Villa know we're never going to give up and we'll continue to fight.

"We have had a good week's preparation, so we've got no excuses. For the game against Villa, we're playing at home in front of 40,000-odd fanatical Sunderland supporters."

Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill:
"Roy Keane has already done a good job at Sunderland. He got them promotion after they made a sticky start to the season.

"Sunderland have a knack of scoring late on in games. It is testament to their energy, enthusiasm and never-say-die spirit. All of those things you would encapsulate in a Roy Keane team.

"He quickly got a grip of things and sometimes that is not easy. Sometimes it takes a bit of time. He improved the team in the transfer market and Sunderland just took off."

Sunderland against Aston Villa brings together the clubs third bottom and fourth top on the Premier League's "form" table.

Bottom placed Derby is the only club Roy Keane's side have beaten in 10 Premier League matches.

Martin O'Neill's outfit may have lost their last two league games, but are chasing a fourth win on the bounce away from home.

Villa have scored twice as many goals on their league travels as the Black Cats managed at the Stadium of Light; 14 to seven.

No club has managed fewer than Sunderland's two clean sheets in this Premier League campaign; Aston Villa have failed to score in only two league games, and only leaders Arsenal exceed that, having netted in every game.

Only Fulham have used more players than Sunderland's 25 in this Premier League campaign (26); only Blackburn have used fewer than the 20 Aston Villa have fielded (19).

Michael CHOPRA is a hat-trick shy of 50 career league goals (Newcastle, Watford, Barnsley, Cardiff and Sunderland).

Last season's top scorer David CONNOLLY needs one goal to total 100 in his league career (Watford, Wolves, Wimbledon, West Ham, Leicester, Wigan and Sunderland).

Dwight YORKE will be facing a former club. The 36 year old Trinidad and Tobago international began his English playing career at Aston Villa, making 287 appearances (231 in the league) and scoring 98 goals (73 league) between December 1989 and his 12.6m move to Manchester United in August 1998.

AGBONLAHOR is one of 11 different scorers of Premier League goals. Only Everton and Tottenham boast more; 12 each.
