Blackburn's Savage won't rule out Wales return

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage can't rule out a return to the Wales setup.

"At the minute, I have retired from international football with Wales, but that's all because of the guy who is in charge," Savage said. "Would I go back? Well I've said never say never and if there is a change of manager, then you never know.

"I certainly don't think I'm too old to go back into it. I'm only 33, but I play with Tugay [Kerimoglu] at Blackburn and he is 37, so that says it all. My little boy, Charlie, asks why I don't play for Wales anymore and I just tell him that I am too old. But I do miss playing for Wales, I really do. Playing European football is the pinnacle and I don't get any of that anymore."

Over 6,000 fans attend Blackburn training

Over 6,000 fans attended an open Blackburn Rovers training session yesterday.

Midfielder Robbie Savage said: "If I was a kid I would have liked to have gone to see my heroes play or train.

"It was a bit strange having so many people watching us as nobody turns up at the training ground.

"You are a role model these days and the kids pick up on everything you do. So it is important that you work hard and are professional."

Blackburn's Savage: I deserved to be dropped

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage feels back to his best.

"It was a shock to me when I was dropped, but you just have to get on with it and I think I reacted in the best possible way, even though I didn't like the manager for about a week," Savage said.

"I feel it was probably deserved, but the sign of every good pro is how you react. You can either sulk and get your head down or work hard to get back in and I did that."

    Reid makes successful Blackburn comeback

Steven Reid made his first appearance in a Blackburn shirt for 14 months when he managed 55 minutes for Rovers' reserves on Monday night.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder has been struggling with injury for more than a year but played 55 minutes in the 5-0 win over Sunderland without suffering a relapse.

Reid was plagued by injuries to his back and knee which forced him to miss most of last season.

McCarthy has been great this season, you gotta praise him for that. And so much for Portsmouth's 90th minute goal, didn't get them anything.

Blackburn boss Hughes: No Reid risk

Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes won't take any risks with Steven Reid's comeback.

"We are not going to rush Steven back," said Hughes.

"Even though we've lost a senior first-team player (Savage), we've waited so long for Steven to come back that it's really important that he's given the right amount of time to be ready.

"If Steven needs a little bit more time, or if there are any doubts that maybe a few extra days will help him, then that's what he will get.

"We have got to keep it steady with Steven. It's important that he's fit and strong and able to keep up with the demands of the Premier League.

"The process is on-going. He's not had enough games yet, he needs the games before we even consider him for the first-team."

Reid suffered a catalogue of injuries, including cruciate knee ligament damage, that kept him sidelined since August last year.

But Hughes is delighted with the progress that the former Millwall midfielder has made.

He told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "He looks fit, strong and really positive. He's got a smile on his face and he's done okay in the games he's been involved in.

"We are happy with what we've seen from him."
