Man City join interest for Bolton striker Anelka

Manchester City are joining the growing interest in Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka.

The Times says Anelka is among five striker targets being followed by City manager Sven Goran Eriksson, which also include Heerenveen goal machine Afonso Alves.

Manchester United and Chelsea are also monitoring Anelka's situation.

Bolton boss Megson keen for Anelka to miss France games

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is praying Nicolas Anelka is not passed fit for the conclusion of France's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign for fear of the knock-on effects for the Premier League strugglers.

The Trotters' top scorer this season has missed Bolton's last four games due to a hamstring problem but has been included in Raymond Domenech's squad for France's game against Ukraine on November 21.

Megson's prime concern is Bolton's mission to escape the relegation zone and he is at pains to avoid a recurrence of Anelka's injury which would severely hamper the club's efforts.

"He has to go with France for them to see what state he is in," Megson told the club's official website.

"But if he played and they deemed he was okay, then it would be a nightmare for us."

Domenech ready to defy Bolton over Anelka

France coach Raymond Domenech is ready to defy Bolton boss Gary Megson over Nicolas Anelka's fitness.

Domenech understands the English club's concerns but is set to keep the frontman with the rest of the France squad.

"Anelka will see the doctor," said Domenech. "If he's fit, then he will stay with us, otherwise he will return to his club.

"But in my opinion the best way for him to recover is with the national team. There are four physios, and nothing else to do but get treatment."

Anelka is not due to return to the Bolton side until early December after being told he would be out for six weeks.

And boss Gary Megson believes it will be "a nightmare" for the Premier League strugglers if he features for Les Bleus.

"Nicolas has to go, we know that, so they can see what state he is in," said Megson. "He has this tear on his hamstring and the prognosis was six weeks on the sidelines.

"It would be a huge mistake if they said he had to stay, then train and play. It would be a nightmare for Nick and for us."

Megson confident Bolton can handle Anelka transfer rumours

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is confident the club can handle fresh transfer speculation over star striker Nicolas Anelka.

"There is always talk about players the stature and quality of Nicolas Anelka," Megson said. "There are always going to be other clubs interested.

"But nothing been set in stone either way so there is nothing to deal with at the moment. You would expect players here to be linked with other clubs. But you would expect us to be linked with players as well.

"That's not unusual now to the Premiership because of the window system we have got now. Clubs start getting a little excited getting towards January.

"I disapprove of the window very strongly. It may help some clubs but it doesn't help the majority. However, this next two weeks, in terms of the staff's time, will be utilised watching games and trying to identify players we might be able to bring in during the window."

Bolton boss Megson: No problems with Diouf, Anelka

New Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson insists he hasn't had any bother from temperamental pair Nicolas Anelka and El Hadji Diouf.

He told the Sunday Telegraph: "I had an idea in my head about Nic but the things that have been said about him are far removed from the truth," Megson said. ''He's a terrific bloke. He is great in the dressing room. He's not loud. He is not sulky. He is not lazy. He is nothing like he has been portrayed.

''As for Diouf, if every club had a Dioufy it would be a livelier and better place. He wants to win and gives it everything he's got."

Bolton boss Megson hits back at France over Anelka claims

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has rubbished French claims they exaggerated reports of Nicolas Anelka's injury last week.

Anelka has missed Bolton's last four games and was expected to be out for six weeks after suffering a torn hamstring against Aston Villa on October 28.

But he was called up by France for a friendly against Morocco and a Euro 2008 qualifier against Ukraine, and Bolton were forced to release their top scorer so that he could be assessed by the French camp.

Megson hoped they would return Anelka, saying it would be "a nightmare" if he played, although Raymond Domenech felt he was fit enough to make a substitute appearance in last Friday's 2-2 draw against Morocco.

While Domenech then claimed Bolton exaggerated Anelka's condition, Megson insisted he was merely following medical advice.

"I would never even go near questioning the integrity of medical personnel," he said.

"Our doctor sent over the scans and gave his opinion on the situation with Nicolas.

"The French coach has had his say and I'm aware that he played 28 minutes for them, but he's come back fit and well so there's not an issue now.

"He's played that 28 minutes but he's been travelling around Europe, so we'll see how he is and I'm hopeful he'll be out there on Saturday."

Bolton ready to cash in on Chelsea, Man Utd target Anelka

Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked with the Frenchman and the Mirror says he will be sold if they receive a 15 million offer in the transfer window.

Megson admits Bolton preparing for Anelka sale

Bolton boss Gary Megson admits the club have begun preparing for the potential departure of striker Nicolas Anelka during the transfer window.

Bolton have no desire to sell their top scorer but Megson acknowledges they may receive an offer too good to refuse.

Anelka cost a club-record 8 million from Fenerbahce in 2006 and would attract a fee which dwarves the record 4.5 million received for Jason McAteer from Liverpool in 1995.

Megson and his new scouting network have therefore spent the international break assessing potential transfer targets so they are ready to move should Wanderers be forced to cash in on their prize asset.

"We've been doing a lot of work during the international break in terms of watching players," said Megson. "It's no good something happening and saying 'well, we weren't ready for it'.

"You can't identify everything that's going to happen but we've got to know what we'd like to do if certain things do happen.

"What we've got to do is get the best out of Nic while he's here," he added. "If he's here for a long time then great - if he's not then we've got to make sure that when he leaves it makes us a stronger football club.

"There's been no amount of money put on it and we're not 100% sure what we're going to need, but what I will say is that anybody we do bring in will have to be quality to go with the ones we've already got."

ANELKA will be playing against a club he was on loan to between December 2001 and May 2002. The 28 year old France international made 22 appearances (20 in the league) and scored five goals (four league) for the Reds.
