Ziani double ensures first points for Algeria

ALGIERS, June 6 (Reuters) - Karim Ziani scored twice to lead Algeria to a 3-0 win over Liberia in a World Cup qualifier in Blida on Friday, reviving the north African nation’s campaign after defeat in their opening African zone Group Six game.

The Olympique Marseille midfielder scored a 20th minute goal from a free kick and converted a penalty three minutes into the second half to ensure Algeria’s first points of the campaign.

They had been beaten by Senegal in Dakar last Saturday in their opening group match.

Rafik Djebbour had opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his first international goal. Algeria next play the Gambia away on June 14 while Liberia meet Senegal at home one day later.

Earlier on Friday, Egypt beat Djibouti 4-0 away in a Group 12 match. A further 21 African qualifiers will be played on Saturday and Sunday.
