Chelsea confirm Terry out three weeks after op

Chelsea have confirmed John Terry has undergone knee surgery which will keep him out of action for three weeks.

The Blues have also revealed Ashley Cole faces up to a month on the sidelines with an ankle injury he sustained on international duty.

Terry has been forced to go under the knife to cure the knee problem which forced him to miss England's 2-1 defeat to Russia in midweek.

The England skipper is now set to be sidelined for up to three weeks and he faces a race against time to be fit for England's crucial Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia.

Cole also faces a battle to make the Croatia tie after suffering an ankle injury in the 3-0 win over Estonia.

The news is a double blow for Blues boss Avram Grant as it means both players will miss key Premier League and UEFA Champions League games for Chelsea.

Drogba pledges "100% commitment" to Chelsea

Didier Drogba insists he's "100 per cent committed" to Chelsea and regrets his interview this week with France Football magazine.

"I am a Chelsea player and will be 100 per cent committed and supportive to my manager, my team-mates and the club," he said in a statement released by Chelsea.

"I will not be discussing my future any further until I meet privately with the club at the end of the season."

Chelsea manager Avram Grant said on Friday he was keen to speak to the player in private to quell any further dressing-room unrest.

"I can't tell you something because I read it in the paper. I need to discuss it with him," Grant said.

"I have read many things that were not true about problems in the dressing-room.

"Now you know there was no problem in the dressing-room until now and I hope it will continue like that.

"This attitude has brought us good results in a very difficult time.

"I am very happy with the atmosphere and the attitude of the players until now and I am sure that it will continue."

Chelsea's Shevchenko: Don't blame me for Mourinho downfall

Andriy Shevchenko insists he's not to blame for Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea.

"There are people who try to put me in the middle, who say that it was my fault Mourinho went," the 2004 European Footballer of the Year told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"But I'm not a director, I'm a player. The only thing that matters to me is giving everything I can to the team."

Drogba: Lyon interest

French champions Lyon have confirmed an interest in Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian suggested last week that he is looking to leave Stamford Bridge before admitting he would not discuss his future again until the end of the season.
A return to French football could be an option for Drogba after Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas expressed his admiration.
However, Aulas also acknowledged that the sale of Florent Malouda to Chelsea in the summer has left Lyon short of an 'asset' to pursue Drogba.

Exceptional

"Everything is possible in football," Aulas told Aujourd'hui en France. "Didier Drogba is an exceptional footballer who loves France.
"We had an asset [to make him come] here, Florent Malouda, who was playing for us.
"Unfortunately he has left for Chelsea. If we had to sign both of them, it is maybe beyond our means."
Meanwhile, Drogba says the appointment of Henk Ten Cate to the coaching staff at Chelsea will not influence his mindset.

Not hung up

Drogba said in The Times: "I have not had the time to talk to him. He is here to achieve the objectives set down by the club.
"I have never heard the rumour about Guus Hiddink arriving in November as the general manager.
"I don't get hung up about such things. Whichever coach they bring in, it will change nothing."

Crespo urges Chelsea's Drogba to consider Inter Milan

Hernan Crespo has urged Chelsea striker Didier Drogba to join him at Inter Milan.

Crespo said: "Drogba is a wonderful player and I understand that he could leave Chelsea because there is no longer Jose Mourinho there.

"If he can handle a bit of rotation, he'd do well here. If he aims to be a constant starter, it will be tough."

Cole confident Chelsea can go on winning streak

Joe Cole warned Chelsea's title rivals: "We are coming to get you."

With the dust settling on Jose Mourinho's shock departure, the Blues have won three on the trot under new boss Avram Grant.

And England midfield ace Cole told The Sun: "You're not out of the title race in September.

"We need to put a really great run together, 20 to 25 wins.

"I know that sounds silly but it is what we have got to do. We are certainly capable of doing that."

Cech: Chelsea players accept Drogba outburst

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insists the players have no problems with Didier Drogba's outburst last week.

Drogba declared in France Football that he's been unsettled at Chelsea since the first day he arrived, but Cech insists there can be no doubting his commitment.

He said: "Didier opened his heart in his interview but the main importance for the players, the club and the fans should be the fact that on the pitch he has always been brilliant and fighting 100%.

"Every player has the right to say what he thinks. For us the most important thing is that he plays on the pitch for the team. You can see that in any game, he is 100% for us and wants to score goals and win and that is the main thing."

Grant backed for Chelsea success - by Israel PM

On Tuesday Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert met Avram Grant, his countryman and the manager of Chelsea.

He also discussed the new Blues boss's prospects with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Olmert, in London for talks with Brown on Iran's disputed nuclear programme and the Middle East peace process, took time out of his schedule to meet up with Grant, former coach of the Israeli national side, at a hotel in the city.

"I was very glad to meet my friend Avram Grant, who is one of the leading coaches in the Premier League," Olmert told a joint press conference in London with Brown.

"Grant knows the team I support are Manchester United and any match Chelsea plays I hope it wins thanks to him, except for matches against Manchester United.

"I'm very happy at his achievements and success."

Grant: Ten Cate perfect for 'new' Chelsea

Chelsea boss Avram Grant says new assistant Henk ten Cate is the ideal man to transform the team's playing style.

Grant declared: "I can check only by what I see on the pitch. What I see on the pitch from the first game until the last game on Saturday, all the players are fully committed and do everything they can. I don't think anybody can say even one player is not fully committed and that is what is important.

"As I said before it is not easy to start coaching at the start of the year but I think step by step we are doing the right things.

"I have a vision of how I think Chelsea needs to play - entertaining football with results. But to do it, you need to put the right people inside.

"So many people suggested themselves for this job and other jobs at Chelsea but Henk ten Cate is the right man. He is the right man for us and for me.

"We want to win tomorrow because we lost two points in the last game against Rosenborg. I like to do the best for Chelsea and the way of winning is also important. This is our goal - to play good football and win games."
