Official El Salvador National Soccer Team Post(Hopefully the WC drought ends in 2010)

Well, I'm new to the forums and I see that barely no one posts here, so I figure what the heck, I'll start a thread on my country's soccer team quest to make the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Well we have already qualified to the next round of games.

So far we beat Anguilla, next up is a very good Panama team.

Here are the results/highlights so far in the WC Qualifiers:

Feb 06, 2008 SAN SALVADOR - Estadio Cuscatlan:

El Salvador 12 Anguilla 0 (Highlights: YouTube - EL SALVADOR 12 - ANGUILA 0 - Rumbo a Sudafrica 2010 )

Mar 26 2008 WASHINGTON DC - RFK Stadium:

El Salvador 4 Anguilla 0 (Highlights: YouTube - El salvador 4-Anguila 0 )

And here is the dates for the next round....

Jun 15 2008 PANAMA CITY, PANAMA- Rommel Fernandez

Jun 22 2008 SAN SALVADOR - Estadio Cuscatlan

Loser of this next round/series will be eliminated from the WC so I really hope we can win.

Winner goes on to the Semifinals/group rounds with 3 other teams.

Our key players are:

Eliseo Quintanilla (Best player, Midfielder)

Shawn Martin (Midfielder)

Alfredo Pacheco (Midfielder/Defender)

Rudis Corrales (Foward)

Juan Jose Gomez (GK, Captain regularly)

We had a friendly last night vs China (in LA), we had the lead at 2-0 but unfortunately, China came back. The game ended 2-2, I will post the highlights when the become available.

Our next friendly will be May 30th vs Guatemala in RFK Stadium (Washington D.C.)

Just came back from the Guatemala-ES game.

I took lots of pics and will post them tommorow.

Here's an article on the match:

Quote:
Guatemala, El Salvador play to 0-0 tie

WASHINGTON (AP)—El Salvador goalkeeper Miguel Montes made nine saves to help his team to a scoreless tie with Guatemala in an international exhibition match Friday night.

In front of 38,759 fans at RFK Stadium, Montes proved to be the difference in a physical match that saw three yellow cards given out.

The first scoring opportunity came for El Salvador in the 7th minute when Guatemala goalie Luis Molina failed to beat El Salvador striker Rudis Corrales to a cross. Corrales ricocheted the ball past Molina, but could only find the outside of the net.

In the 31st minute, Guatemala came close to breaking the deadlock on perhaps the best opportunity of the match, when striker Mario Rodriguez headed a corner kick off the near post and almost in before Montes swatted it off the goal line.

Montes capped off his performance in the 92nd minute, robbing Guatemalan midfielder Abner Trigueros from 8 yards out with a sprawling save at the near post.

If there are any youtube links in the morning, I will post those also.

The game was very sloppy and Guatemala (Thankfully) missed so many chances.

El Salvador was without 7 regulars due to finals going on in club play.

Highlights aren't available on youtube yet, but when they are, I'll post them here.

Countdown for El Salvador

Quote:

Eight days and counting. With the roster/training nearly complete, Carlos de los Cobos began concentrating on facing Panama in the first leg of the home-away playoff series as both teams look to advance to the next round in the CONCACAF Region as both teams dream of reaching South Africa 2010.

The 1st game is scheduled for June 15 and time is the greatest enemy. The Mexican technician (De Los Cobos) focused the team's work on the refinement of the strategic and tactical part to offset what they can and cannot do in the match.

According to De Los Cobos, it will be vital to not lose and not give up goals. With the Advantage of closing the series at home, the logic is to head back to Cuscatlan Stadium with the comfort of knowing that the home crowd will be behind the team.

As a compensatory measure, the coaches will put high priority on defending, marking and winning the battles in the air both with the 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 formations, which are the two schemes prefered by De Los Cobos.

The rival, Panama, is not slouch either. They have improved tremendously in the last decade. They are lead by Alexander Guimaraes, who previously lead Costa Rica to World Cup 2002 and 2006.

The series history favors El Salvador. In eight matches played against Panama in World Cup Qualifying history, El Salvador has Five Victories, two draws and one loss.

The last time these two teams went head-to-head was in the World Cup Qualifer for World Cup 2006. Despite El Salvador being the favorites to win that day, Panama won 3-0.

Three and a half years later, the two teams will meet again with the roles reversed. Panama is ranked # 60 by FIFA and have rised in the CONCACAF region in the last decade.

El Salvador on the other hand is ranked # 120, and Many believe the FESFUT (El Salvador Soccer Federation) is one of the worse federations in the region.

As the game nears, One of the concerns of Carlos de los Cobos is the low power of defintion the team displayed in the last friendly match played against Guatemala on May 30th. The game ended 0-0.

In the last round of CONCACAF qualifying however, El Salvador easily disposed of Anguilla, 12-0 and 4-0.

Despite those lopsided scores, there are questions of how powerful El Salvador's attacking maybe becuase Anguilla was not a rival who gave a real defensive effort.

One solution however, has been the recent addition to the team, Hondurean William Reyes, who just recently gained nationalization and trained for El Salavdor for the first time a few days ago.
http://www.diariocolatino.com/es/200.../55676/?tpl=71

The last two sentences are the only real concerns I have as well.

Anguilla was never going to be a real threat/test and I HOPE William Reyes is the real deal to go along side Rudis Corrales. If not, we will have problems scoring.

I'M PROUD to BUMP THIS POST

We advanced in our Round 2 series vs Panama with this AMAZING VICTORY LAST NIGHT (YouTube - El Salvador 3 vs Panama 1 6.22.2008 WCQ2010)

We are now in Round 3 and this is our group:

I'm hopeful that we can win or end 2nd in this group. If you look at all 3 groups, this one is actually the easiest one.

OH MAN I'm still IN EUPHORIA

El Salvador is ranked # 117 in the FIFA Rankings as of July 2, 2008.

FIFA.com - The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking

I have a problem with this...our move should have been WAY higher than just 3 points....we practically eliminated the best team Panama has assembled in their history, so we should have moved up to the 90's at least...

So a friendly has been confirmed for ES (This is from FIFA.com)

FIFA says it's the 19th but the following article says it's on the 20th....I'm not sure which date it is, but it should be known in a few days...

Here's the article on it ....

Quote:

We need to play and Guatemala serves as a good test for us

El Salvador National Team Coach, Carlos de los Cobos, assured that the upcoming friendly against Guatemala, planned for this 20th of July, will serve, above all, as a great test to his team, who's focus is on the third round of qualifying in the CONCACAF region for South Africa 2010, where they will have to face Costa Rica, Surinam and Haiti. "Competing against Guatemala will have some benefit . They are also a team that is in the next round. The benefit is basically to play. We need to play", said De Los Cobos to LA PRENSA GRAPHICA (El Salvadorean Newspaper) , in a telephone interview from Monterrey, Mexico.

De Los Cobos traveled to Mexico after being in a meeting with the teams of the El Salvador League, in which the loan of the players was determined upon for the National Squad.

This will be the second time this year that El Salvador faces Guatemala in a friendly match. In the most recent match, disputed last month in Washington DC, the game finished 0-0. That was the last match for El Salvador before facing Panama in the 2nd Round of the CONCACAF Qualifiers.
"Necesitamos jugar y Guatemala nos sirve" - Noticias de El Salvador - La Prensa Grafica

Also, another El Salvador Newspaper, el Graphico said that the following countries are being considered for other friendly matches in the near future...

Quote:

Possible rivals for Friendly Matches for El Salvador in July and August.

COUNTRY----------LOCATION

Canada----------Los Angeles or San Francisco
Colombia----------Washington DC or New York
Ecuador----------Washington DC or New York
Jamaica----------Washington DC or New York
Peru----------Washington DC or New York
T. and Tobago----------New York
el Grafico - Lo hacemos por deporte

I'm excited that there will possibly/most likely be another El Salvador match in Washington DC...I can't remember the last time DC has hosted this many ES matches in one year
