Dean Ashton could be West Ham's only fit recognised striker as Carlton Cole struggles to overcome a hip injury.

Luis Boa Morte (thigh) is doubtful, but Lee Bowyer could return after undergoing a hernia operation.

David Moyes has also restored defender Nuno Valente to his squad but hinted he might name the same side that beat the Hammers in the Carling Cup in midweek.

West Ham manager Alan Curbishley:
"Everton are a very strong side and they make it difficult and work ever so hard.

"They were sharper and more physical than us and we know what we are up against when they come back here.

"That is something we have got to think about for the weekend, because they were definitely better at that than us."

Everton manager David Moyes:
"We are going into a period where a lot of things will be decided and we need to hang on to the shirt-tails of the teams above us and not get too far away.

"If we are in the next round of the Uefa Cup and the Carling Cup we have to also make sure we maintain our league form.

"The reason we are in the Uefa Cup this year is because we finished sixth last year and we have to try and do it again."

West Ham get an early opportunity to avenge Wednesday's 1-2 Carling Cup quarter-final defeat by Everton, with the equivalent league fixture.

Alan Curbishley sets out on his second year in charge of West Ham, a side that has lost just one of their last seven league games, and that away to Chelsea.

Everton go into their 300th Premier League match away from home, undefeated in 11 league and cup games, going strongly in the Uefa and Carling Cups, and well set to challenge for a European place next season.

Richard WRIGHT will be facing a former club. The 30 year old goalkeeper made 71 appearances (60 in the league) for Everton between July 2002 and his free transfer to Upton Park in July 2007.

YAKUBU is one of 12 players contributing to the Everton Premier League goal tally. It is the joint longest goalscorers list in the highest league, alongside Tottenham's.
