Dave Moyes[Coach]

Quote:
Everton boss Moyes: Pienaar now well established

Everton boss Dave Moyes says Stephen Pienaar has a big role to play in their UEFA Cup campaign.

"I think you can see Steven is starting to become a very important player for us," Moyes told evertonfc.com.

"He's come in and with his experience in Europe with Ajax and Borussia Dortmund last year I hoped he would be one of the players who would be able help us in Europe and I think he did that against Kharkiv."

The versatility of Pienaar, who can play in a variety of midfield positions, is something that pleases Moyes.

"He came on loan and when you bring someone in on loan, it gives us a chance to see him, him a chance to see us, but also the supporters a chance to see him as well," he explained.

"He's good on the ball and doesn't give it away, which is a great habit. He can play in the centre, on the left, or on the right, so we will see how it works out for us. But he was one of the best midfielders in Europe a year ago."

Everton boss Moyes now seeing McFadden best

Everton boss Dave Moyes believes he's now getting the best from former Motherwell winger James McFadden.

"Were getting bits of the best out of Faddy just now," Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.

"Theres a bit of him which infuriates you, but theres certainly bits of him that get you out of your seat and at the moment I think hes got an eye for goal.

"He is happy to take on the opportunities like he did against France for Scotland, and even in the game before against Lithuania.

"Not only that, hes scored a couple of different goals, like the header at the back post then a tap-in against Sheffield Wednesday.

"When he gets opportunities like that now you think, hell probably score here so thats good.

"Hes showing more maturity with his decision-making on the field so I think hes doing better this year.

"Its coming on, which we always thought it would do with age and experience."

Everton boss Moyes confident Cahill fit for derby

Everton boss Dave Moyes is confident Tim Cahill will be fit for tomorrow's derby against Liverpool.

"Tim started training on Monday and we are pleased to have him back," Moyes told evertonfc.com. "There is no doubt we have missed him since he's been out."

Cahill scored in the memorable 3-0 victory in last season's corresponding fixture and the boss is delighted to have him back in the fray.

"He is a goalscoring central midfielder with drive and when you look at the goals he has scored for Everton in the past three years, he has been a big part of our success.

"This a big period for us. We gave the players a few days off last week after a difficult period and gave them a chance to relax. From Saturday, we have a lot of big games and need them fresh."

Everton cheated out of derby win - Moyes

Everton were "cheated" out of victory against Liverpool on Saturday, says manager Dave Moyes.

Everton finished the game losing 2-1 after Liverpool were handed two second-half penalties.

"Heads should be held high," Moyes told evertonTV.

"I think we have had the best disciplinary record of any club this season but we have had two unfortunate sending-offs so I am disappointed with that.

"But I have told the players 'no', they have been cheated today in decisions that have gone against you.

"We didn't deserve to lose that game today."

Everton boss Moyes won't accept ref apology

Everton boss Dave Moyes will reject any apology offered by ref Mark Clattenberg after his performance in Saturday's 2-1 victory by Liverpool.

Moyes said: "I would not take a phone call after that performance."

The angry Everton boss probably spared himself from a disrepute charge by adding: "Refs are honest people who generally do a good job but he [Clattenburg] didn't do a good job this time. They will probably suspend him for one game and think that is OK, but that is no good at all to us."

Clattenburg is being groomed to take over as the country's top ref.

Moyes happy to have "bubbly" Gravesen back at Everton

Everton boss Dave Moyes is delighted to have Thomas Gravesen back on Merseyside.

"He is a bubbly lad and his character is strange, to say the least," said Moyes. "But it's good to have him back in business as we are in an important period. He's got a winning mentality and good experience and he can give us something different in midfield.

"The problem with Tommy is that he came here desperately in need of match practice and he then played for 29 minutes at Bolton when he first arrived. The idea was to get him a little bit more ready for the Premier League.

"But he's hardly played since then. He's had no real match practice and he might be in a worse position because of that than when he came from Celtic.

"He's been out injured for month. He can make impacts in games, though. We want to get him back ready so that he can start games."

Everton boss Moyes hints at January spending

Everton manager David Moyes has hinted he may strengthen in the January transfer window, but also warned funds are limited.

The Toffees have made a solid start to the new Premier League season while they remain in the Uefa Cup, Carling Cup and have the FA Cup to look forward to in the New Year.

Although Everton have opted for loan deals in January in past years, Moyes has stated the nature of their signings this time around will depend on how they progress in the coming months.

"We may well look to strengthen the squad in January, if the right players are available," stated Moyes.

"We will assess that at the time and see what we can do. In the past it may well have been loan deals for us at this time of year, but a lot will depend on where we are and how things are going.

"That will play a part. But I have not been told that there will not be money to spend in January."

Moyes impressed by Chelsea boss Grant

Everton boss Dave Moyes has paid tribute to Avram Grant for the way he has Chelsea playing at the moment.

Moyes' Everton face Chelsea today and the Scot told evertonfc.com: "Avram Grant is doing a very, very good job. Let's be fair he has been left a tremendous squad of players but saying that you still have to win games. You still have to take it on and deal with the players and he has done well with it."

Everton came close to halting Chelsea's undefeated home record in the final game of last season, and Moyes believes the reason it is still intact is clear.

"I think it's the team itself," he said. "They have got fantastic players and people who are capable of winning games on their own; goalscoring midfield players, powerful centre forwards, strong defenders.

"So they have got a very good side and you have to have that if you want to compete as Chelsea have done recently."

Everton boss Moyes hails brave Howard

Everton boss David Moyes has praised the form of Tim Howard, even though the goalkeeper has not fully recovered since dislocating his finger playing for the US in September.

"He's playing through the pain barrier, but he has been excellent," the manager said.

Everton boss Moyes waiting for new contract talks

Everton boss David Moyes says he is waiting for the chance to hold detailed talks about a new contract with Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright.

Moyes' present deal expires in 2009, but reports suggest the Goodison Park boss will be offered a fresh five-year term.

"I had a quick minute with Bill to talk about it," said Moyes in the

News of the World

. "Our relationship is good and when the moment is right we'll see.

"Recently we've had no downtime to talk because we've been so busy.

"You only have to look around the country and you see those clubs which have had continuity also have the most strength.

"We have not won anything or achieved anything yet, but you can see we've become better over the years.

"There's a big future here at Everton, whether it's the new training ground, new stadium or the better team we have."

Howard: Moyes makes sure our No1 priority is Everton

Tim Howard says the international break is good timing for Everton.

The USA goalkeeper told evertonTV : "It is a good time for a break.

"We have been on a good run of form. We can get away, some of the guys can put their feet up and when we come back we will be raring to go.

"The boys go away now, some of us get a break and some of us don't.

"The boys who aren't going away will have a little break and the manager will sort out our rest."

Sunday's draw with Chelsea saw Everton's starting XI contain nine internationals, with Thomas Gravesen and James McFadden coming off the bench also capped.

Howard added: "The manager made a point of saying that to us. Number one this is Everton football club but number two we have international players spread out across the squad."

Irvine admits Everton's Moyes had big say in Preston move

New Preston North End boss Alan Irvine admits Dave Moyes had a big say in his move from Everton.

Irvine told evertonTV : "David Moyes was a fantastic help as far as making the decision was concerned. He gave me a great deal of information about Preston as a club and the people at Preston.

"I am very grateful to him for that on top of everything else he has done for me over the years."

Irvine is ready for the extra responsibility that management demands.

"David was very good, he involved me in everything and he wanted to know my opinion on everything but at the end of the day he made the decisions," added the Scot. "Now the buck stops with me and if things aren't right people will be pointing the finger at me and not someone else."

"When you see something like that, you want to bottle it and keep it to produce again and again. I sensed something like this was coming."

Everton manager David Moyes:
"That was probably the best performance in my time here. Some of our football was fantastic and our passing and movement was just outstanding.

"It is how I have been hoping to get an Everton team playing and I hope we see Everton playing that was more often - hopefully it's the first of many.

"Mikel Arteta's first 45 minutes was nothing short of magical. The things he did on the ball and the opportunities he created for us were just something else."

Everton boss David Moyes:
"To keep qualifying for European competitions we have to do that through our league position.

"It will be as hard to get into the top 10 this year as maybe it has to get into the top four in the past.

"Blackburn, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Portsmouth and West Ham are doing well so it will be really tough."

Everton boss Moyes won't slam Pienaar

Everton boss Moyes won't slam Pienaar

Everton boss Dave Moyes couldn't fully criticise Stephen Pienaar for his tired lunge at Ryan Giggs which gifted Manchester United victory yesterday.

He told evertonfc.com: "The fact it was a penalty and it was late on means it hurts more but that happens and I don't think I left the field feeling like a loser.

"I can't hide the fact it was a poor decision by Steven Pienaar in the box that led to the penalty. We have told him that but in the same breath I had to tell him how well he has played for us today and also how well in the last few months.

"That mistake cost us, otherwise we would be walking away with a hard-earned point.

"The back boys defended brilliantly well throughout. We had to wait for our moments and so for the team to lose the game is hard. We know why, that is football but I don't feel we have come away as losers. We have come away with an awful lot good about our game and we could actually grow in confidence because of the way we played."
