For Fulham, Jimmy Bullard will miss the opportunity to feature against his former club Wigan as his recovery from knee surgery nears its conclusion.

Bullard came through a midweek reserve match unscathed and will figure in the club's plans in the coming weeks.

Striker Emile Heskey could be a surprise inclusion in Wigan's squad after injuring an ankle last weekend.

Steve Bruce rates him "touch and go", along with Jason Koumas (groin) and Antoine Sibierski (thigh).

Fulham caretaker boss Ray Lewington on the departure of Lawrie Sanchez:
"When I was driving in today [Friday] I had no idea.

"The players are fine. Footballers are used to managers coming and going and I will put my stamp on the team which will be slightly different.

"Wigan are a side that are down there with us - we need to win our home games so this is vitally important."

Wigan manager Steve Bruce:
"If you can beat your rivals it will always help. Fulham will be saying exactly the same.

"The big bonus for us is that if we can beat them, and with the other games at the bottom, it's a possibility we can get out of the bottom three.

"That will be a huge thing going into the Christmas period."

Managerless Fulham enter a round of Premier League fixtures in the relegation zone for the first time this season; Wigan have been there continuously since 3 November.

The Cottagers have lost the last three without scoring; the Latics are without a Premier League victory away from home, and have lost the last seven on the road.

Wigan have endured as many league defeats away from home as Fulham have suffered in total home and away (eight), but Wigan have won one more than their London based opponents (three to two), yet find themselves one place and one point inferior in the table.

Wigan shocked Blackburn 5-3 at home last time out but have not achieved back-to-back Premier League victories in 14 games; Fulham have won only one of their last 15 league outings.

The Londoners are chasing a 750th win in top-flight football; Athletic need to score once to total 100 goals in Premier League history.

Wigan are looking for consecutive victories at Craven Cottage, having only picked up one in the last nine away league games against the Cottagers.

7. The current total of 13 points is their lowest ever return after the first 17 games of a Premier League season; always pocketed at least 18 points by this stage.

8. Won only one of the eight league games in which they've opened the scoring, and gained only eight points from the seven matches in which they were leading at half time; also, conceded 23 of their 28 goals in the second half (82), and squandered 17 points from matches in which they held the lead.
