Bullard returns to Fulham training

Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard is close to being given the green light to resume full training following a year on the sidelines.

The 29-year-old has been out of action since dislocating his knee cap and damaging his cruciate ligament in a match against Newcastle United in September 2006.

"Jimmy is on the verge of joining in with contact training with the younger players rather than the actual reserves," Cottagers boss Lawrie Sanchez told the club's official website.

"This will be on a week-by-week basis, he needs three or four weeks before he perhaps comes into contact with the first-team players.

"His recovery has gone very well but he hasn't had someone crunch into him yet. That is now the next stage for him.

"Every time there is a crunch tackle with Jimmy, people will look and see how he is with it.

"Once he's had a few of those and gets up from them, people will say 'let's get on with it'."

Fulham boss Sanchez has £4M to spend

Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez has about £4 million to spend in the January transfer window.

The manager wants a forward and a centre back and is keen on Bobby Zamora, of West Ham United, Kyle Lafferty, of Burnley, and Patrick Kisnorbo, of Leicester City.

Davies impressed by Fulham youngsters

Simon Davies says Fulham can take heart from the way their young players have played this season.

Ahead of their clash with Reading, the midfielder told the fulhamfc.com: "You can look at it both ways. On one hand we'll be missing experienced players but we've got young players who can come in and impress. I thought Elliot (Omozusi) did really well against Sunderland at right back and he certainly didn't look out of place.

"The young lads are creating even more competition for places when the senior players return. That's what you've got to do to make it in the game. When you get given your chance you've got to step in and take it and if you do that you're on your way to becoming a regular."

Reading's Hahnemann keen on Fulham reunion

Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann is keen on an American reunion against Fulham tomorrow.

"This is only the second time in five years I will have been back to Fulham," he said. "I talk to some of the American boys and there will be some banter between me, Bobby Convey and them leading up to the game. It will make it that bit extra special.

"Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra are close to my age but Clinton Dempsey is a bit younger, although we get on well on national team trips.

"He's a really good player and he's starting to find his feet. He's good on the ball with tons of skill and we'll definitely be looking out for him."

Fulham boss Sanchez warns Niemi

Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez has warned current first-choice goalkeeper Antti Niemi not to rest on his laurels.

Niemi, 35, will retain his place in goal for Saturday's home game with Reading on the back of two superb performances against Derby and Sunderland, but Sanchez has reminded him he was only back in the side because of an injury to Kasey Keller.

Sanchez said: "Antti's still a top goalkeeper and he showed that in the last two games, but before that he was responsible for some of the goals we let in and everybody knows that.

"Keller felt some pain in his upper arm after a training session before the Derby game and it turned out he has damaged some tendons. That's why Antti got back in but I had dropped him and he knows why.

"Now I've been telling him to keep showing why he's regarded as the number one here and at the moment he's certainly doing that again."
