Brazilian midfielder Diego (50th), German national player Clemens Fritz (57th) and Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg (70th) scored Bremen's other goals.

But it was Leverkusen, which scored first. The league's red-hot team looked aggressive early on and was on a good way for its sixth consecutive win, when Tranquillo Barnetta scored in the 7th minute. Unfortunatelly it took the guest team about 70 minutes between their first and second strike. Stefan Kiebling's goal in the 76th minute came way too late.

Bremen had trouble finding a rhythm after Tuesday's Champions League match at Olympiakos Piraeus. Bayer even had a chance to go up 2-0, when Kiesling was denied by keeper Tim Wiese in the 28th minute. Two minutes later Klasnic scored for the first time in 13 months.

After the break Bremen showed their usual home strength and never looked back. Until allowing five goals in Bremen, Bayer had surrendered only 11 tallies in 16 games. But their defence looked overmatched at times in the second half.

The big difference in the match might have been the changes, Werder's coach Thomas Schaaf made even before halftime. In the 32nd minute he took Jurica Vranjes and Tim Borowski out of the game. This was the wake-up call the Bundesliga's best offensive team needed.

Two German teams put up a total of a goal difference of 11-0. AMAZING!
