The "Wolves" closed out the year with a convincing 4-0 (2-0) defeat over the BVB. Wolfsburg's first win in seven weeks gives them a little breathing room in the standings. Dortmund on the other side took a blow after two important wins in a row.

The home site started with two early goals, putting the VfL on the winning track in front of a crowd of 30,000 in the sold-out VW-Arena. Marcel Schäfer scored in the 8th minute. His hard shot slipped under Dortmund's keeper Roman Weidenfeller. Only three minutes later Weidenfeller allowed another tough one. After a pass from Schafer, a wide-open Ricardo Costa had no trouble scoring. Christian Gentner (59th) and Edin Dzeko (78th) scored Wolfsburg's other two goals.

This was Dortmund's first loss in Wolfsburg in five years. Coach Thomas Doll's squad had no idea how to stop the aggressive VfL team. The defense showed some huge holes and invited Wolfsburg to score. In the 17th minute Gentner had the chance to blow the game wide open much earlier. But his shot form 18 metres out just missed the goal.

Dortmund didn't had many scoring opportunities. Mladen Petric's shot went wide (19th) and a little later Giovanni Federico couldn't score from nine metres out. Just before halftime Delron Buckley couldn't get the ball around a beaten VfL keeper Andre Lenz.

After the break Schafer missed two chances (49th, 52nd) to net again. It was Gentner, who finally put an end to Dortmund's hopes of finishing the first half of the season strong.
