2-1: BVB Wins With Ten Men - Tinga And Federico Score

[5.10.] Finally! After a long victory drought, Borussia Dortmund has broken through. BVB won the B1-Derby against VfL Bochum by a 2-1 score. BVB finished the match with ten men as captain Christian Wörns was sent off after a second yellow card for repeated fouling.

72,200 spectators at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK saw an apparently energized and passionate BVB who took the lead after seventeen minutes through a Tinga goal. Bochum ´s surprising tying goal came from Mieciel in the thirty-fifth minute. After Christian Wörns was sent off following a second yellow card in the fifty-eighth minute, Borussia got the winning goal through a long-distance hammer from Giovanni Federico in the seventieth minute.

Pre-Match Comments:
Both Revier clubs were in the midst of winning droughts and both had lost eleven places in the standings. Before the match, Borussia Dortmund had dropped to fifteenth place, while Bochum, also with nine points, was thirteenth. This provided a tension rich situation going into the B1 Derby.

Christopher Nöthe received his chance at striker.
Personnel Situation:
Because of their dramatic personnel situation, BVB started two Regional League team players in Njambe and Nöthe. Thomas Doll was missing five offensive players and two regulars in defense. Missing from the Dortmund lineup were: Kuba (muscle injury), Petric (slight muscle tear in adductor region), Valdez (shoulder injury), Buckley (ankle ligament contusion), Frei (torn calf muscle), Degen (adductor problems) and Kehl (fitness training after knee problems). On the other hand, Kringe returned to the team after his suspension incurred when he saw a second yellow card against Hamburg. In central defense, Brzenska reclaimed his position from Kovac.

Bochum´s Marcel Koller had to take the field without Meichelbeck and Mavraj, but neither player is a regular. A more significant loss in the eyes of the guests was that of striker Epalle (bruised foot). Bochum hoped the Cameroonian striker would be available, but those hopes were shattered right before the match.

Tactics:
The most significant tactical difference compared to the match in Karlsruhe was the return to the midfield diamond. Kruska took the role before the defense, Tinga and Njambe played the outside midfield positions and Federico once again lined up behind the strikers. Kringe played Degen´s right back position. Bochum also played a 4-4-2, but unlike BVB, Bochum played with a "double six" (two defensive midfielders) and offensive players out on the wings.

Dortmund’s keeper Roman Weidenfeller gave a strong performance.
Match Comments and Analysis:
From the first minute, it seemed that Borussia planned to take the points. They went into duels with vigor and aggressively as had been demanded again and again over the past few weeks. The fans did not have long to wait for the first goal chance. In the second minute, a Tinga pass sent Federico into the Bochum penalty area. Federico´s shot was just deflected away from goal at the last moment by Bochum defender Yahia.

What developed was surely not a classic match, but it was a scrappy derby with BVB often gaining the upper hand. Consequently, the opening goal fell to Borussia. After Wörns headed a Dede free kick on the Bochum goal forcing Bochum keeper Lastuvka to make a rescuing save, Tinga pounced on the rebound and put it in from point blank range with authority. 1-0 for BVB in the seventeenth minute and a huge celebration at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

The goal provided new self-confidence. Borussia Dortmund now showed passion and match awareness not seen in the matches against Hamburg and Karlsruhe. And the Schwarzgelben went to a pacy game again and again.

This made the Bochum tying goal all the more surprising. Just before the Bochum penalty area, Federico was stripped of the ball and the guests quickly moved forward. In the Dortmund penalty area, Sestak chipped the ball to Mieciel, who beat Roman Weidenfeller with a direct shot into the far corner of the net. 1-1 in the thirty-fifth minute. Most spectators rubbed their eyes in amazement.

Scored a redeeming opening goal: Tinga
Borussia were disturbed for a short time after the goal. However, more Bochum goals were prevented by rescue actions by Weidenfeller in the thirty-eighth minute and Nöthe in the thirty-ninth minute. Borussia regained their composure and was able to record another small chance through a Kruska header in the forty-fifth minute. The spectators sent the team into the locker room at halftime with strong approval in appreciation for the team´s strong, aggressive play.

Both sides did not start the second half with the desired flow in their games. This lasted until the fifty-seventh minute when Dortmund´s Nöthe came free in front of the Bochum goal, but Yahia was able to clear the ball before it reached the Dortmund striker.

While the second half began quietly, it became hectic in the fifty-eighth minute. Wörns, who had already been booked earlier in the evening, took Bochum striker Sestak down just before the Dortmund penalty area. Referee Gräfe immediately went to his pocket and sent off the Dortmund captain with a second yellow card. It was a disputed decision because Wörns´ first yellow card in the fifteenth minute was arguably very harsh. In the sixtieth minute, Thomas Doll reacted to the sending off by replacing Njambe with Kovac.

Dortmund was reduced to ten men, but Bochum was not able to make use of its numerical superiority. On the contrary, Borussia actually hit back. In the seventieth minute, a Kruska corner was deflected out to Federico at the top left corner of the Bochum penalty area. Federico hammered an unstoppable shot from about sixteen meters out into the back of the net. A 2-1 lead for BVB! The ten Borussia players pressed on afterwards. In the seventy-eighth minute, Tinga had a bit of bad luck and was barely foiled by Lastuvka.

Borussia then withdrew into its own half and defended their first victory after a long drought. And even then, substitute Senesie could have increased the lead in the ninetieth minute.

Next Action:
After this match day, the Bundesliga is going into a two week international break. Borussia are back in action on 20 October at Bayer Leverkusen. Kickoff for this match is scheduled for 3:30 PM CET.

win with 10 players thank you god...

Weidenfeller Being Held Out - Ziegler And Dede Are Ill: BVB Traveling To Wehen With Their Last Choice Team

[10.10.] Borussia Dortmund will participate in SV Wehen-Wiesbaden´s opening match for their new stadium on Thursday. Kickoff is planned for 8:15 PM CET. The Bundesliga club will be travelling dealing with a tight personnel situation. "Unfortunately, none of our injured players will be back on the roster by tomorrow", explained Director of Sport Michael Zorc.

Ill: Marc Ziegler
Players who already missed the Bochum match were Kuba (muscle injuries), Petric (slight muscle tear in the adductor region/international duty), Valdez (shoulder injury), Buckley (ligament), Frei (torn calf muscle), Degen (adductor problems) and Kehl (fitness training after knee problems) are not available. Also not available are Marc Ziegler, Dede (both are ill) and Roman Weidenfeller, who is being held out of the match after suffering shoulder problems. Amateur goalkeeper Marc Höttecke will possibly be in the BVB goal, although he must play tonight in the Regional League for BVB II. Thomas Doll cannot simply strengthen his roster with players from Theo Schneider´s BVB II team because he cannot use those players who play a good amount of time against Lübeck tonight.

The possible starting lineup: Höttecke - Akgün, Brzenska, Wörns, Vrzogic - Tinga - Gordon, Kringe - Federico - Klimowicz, Tyrala

this team is the wierdest ever ...

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has voiced his determination to secure a permanent switch to Goodison Park.

The South African international arrived on Merseyside in July on a one-year loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.

Pienaar has made seven Premier League starts this season and scored his first goal for Everton in the 2-0 win over Middlesbrough.

The 25-year-old revealed that he is 100 per cent focused on proving his worth to Toffees boss David Moyes.

"I want to establish myself in the Premier League and to make my move permanent," Pienaar told the Daily Star.

"At the moment I'm just here on loan, but it's not in my mind that I'm here on loan.

"I'm here to play football and fight for my place and it's up to me to make it permanent by showing I deserve to be here."

Gordon And Federico Score - 2-1 BVB Victory In Wiesbaden

[11.10.] On Thursday evening, BVB traveled to Wiesbaden to inaugurate the new "Brita Arena." Although they were missing eleven players, the Bundesliga club managed a 2-1 away victory over SV Wehen-Wiesbaden, currently the third placed team in the Second Bundesliga. Daniel Gordon and Giovanni Federico scored for BVB.

First goal for the professional team: Daniel Gordon

Because of injuries and players called to international duty, Thomas Doll only had five regulars in Wörns, Kringe, Tinga, Brzenska and Federico at his disposal. Doll filled in the team with amateur players who did not play ninety minutes yesterday in BVB II´s 1-0 win over VfB Lübeck. The well-known names on the injury list were joined tonight by Ziegler, Weidenfeller, Dede and just before the match due to back problems, Klimowicz. So, for the first time since the summer pre-season matches, BVB played in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Tyrala as the lone striker up front. The youngster had a huge chance to score the opening goal for BVB in the forty-fifth minute, but he was foiled by the goalkeeper. Just three minutes before, right back Eggert had BVB´s first shot on goal in a very even match.

After halftime, the second division team, who changed their team completely, applied more pressure and acted with more purpose. Nicu was the player causing the most unrest. Because of this, Dortmund ´s opening goal was a bit of a surprise. After a Vrzogic free kick in the sixty-fifth minute, Gordon came free behind the defense and poked the ball in to give BVB the lead. Eight minutes later, following a quick combination from Gordon and Tyrala, Federico scored a second goal for BVB. However, Wehen fought their way back into the match and about fifteen minutes before the end, Wehen defender Kopilas scored. Afterwards, Borussia had to deal with some heavy situations, but were quite happy with their success at the end. "We were very organized as our defensive work showed, but there was not much to see offensively", said coach Doll. "Overall, we did not have many good scenes."

BVB: Höttecke - Eggert, Brzenska, Wörns, Vrzogic - Gordon (77th min. Njambe), Tinga - Hille (78th Boztepe), Federico, Kringe - Tyrala (75th Omerbegovic)

Goals: 0-1 Gordon (65th), 0-2 Federico (73rd), 1-2 Kopilas (76th)

Valdez Scores Winning Goal For Paraguay - But Will Not Return Before Friday Evening

[18.10.] Is the shoulder injured again or not? Nelson Valdez gave an entirely unique answer. Late night Wednesday, he scored Paraguay ´s winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Uruguay. "Now we hope he returns to Dortmund healthy", says coach Thomas Doll.

He was actually only to deliver X-Rays of his injured shoulder, but wound up playing an hour in each of two matches for his homeland. On Wednesday, there were media reports that he re-injured the shoulder, but it could not have been so bad. The fact is, Valdez started the match, scored the only goal of the match after fifteen minutes and was substituted out after a good hour.

One handicap: Valdez must transfer three times on the trip from Asuncion to Düsseldorf and is only expected back at BVB´s training headquarters in Köln on Friday evening. Doll says, "I hope I can use him on Saturday in Leverkusen ."

Doll: "I Really Want To Build Something Here"

[18.10.] Seven microphones and six cameras were set up in front of him. And everyone only wanted to hear something else about the number one topic in the media these days, the alleged arguments at Borussia Dortmund. Thomas Doll handled this situation confidently and emphasized, "I really want to build something here. It is important that we are all pulling together." The Managing Director, Director of Sport and coach are all in daily contact and that is the reason why those arguments have already been settled way before they were discussed in public.

In the media's focus from day one: Thomas Doll (right)

The head coach emphasized it is now important "that things calm down again", however it should not get too quiet, "or we would all fall asleep here". Doll added: "We do not need harmony all the time but other topics should make the headlines now", preferably successful ones because "we want to move up in the table."

Everything on this topic has been said now. "After a turbulent week, there are more important things now. I am only focusing on the match", Thomas Doll emphasized, "because this is our priority. The players on the pitch should have their say on Saturday."

Bundesliga Preview: Borussia Dortmund – Bayern Munich
Who: Borussia Dortmund (11th 13 points) v Bayern Munich (1st 26 points)
When: Sunday, October 28th 2007 (16:00 CET)
Where: Signal-Iduna Park, Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund becomes the latest team to face the challenge of stopping the mighty Bayern juggernaut this weekend. Will we be in store for a repeat of last season’s Signal-Iduna Park victory for BVB, or will the seemingly unstoppable Bayern sweep the Dortmund challenge aside like so many before them?

Run Has To End Somewhere

It is unlikely that Bayern will go through the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten, so they are going to lose sometime. Dortmund will be banking on that happening this Sunday as the Bavarians arrive in the cauldron that is the Signal-Iduna Park.

An 80,000 sell-out crowd will pack the home stadium hoping to see BVB continue their recent good form at home against Bayern which has seen them win three of the last five clashes between the two.

However they have been inconsistent this season, and are rooted in mid-table. Three consecutive defeats in September gave Thomas Doll cause for concern, but a victory in the Ruhr-derby against Bochum and an impressive points away at Leverkusen shows that Dortmund are getting back on track.

The home side will enjoy the role of underdog, a role they revelled in earlier this season against Werder Bremen when they won 3-0.

“We are determined to win the match” explains trainer Thomas Doll. “The decisive factor is for us to concentrate on our own game, rather than worry about our opponents too much.

“We have to grab the initiative ourselves. Our fans want to see a fight and we mustn’t allow Bayern a simple training exercise” he added.

“We won’t be able to match them over the entire season, but we should be able to in this one match.”

Away Day Blues?

FC Bayern face their third away game within nine days when they travel to Dortmund. With their international players coming back from Euro 2008 and World Cup duty ten days ago, and consecutive trips to Bochum and Belgrade, general-manager Uli Hoeneß has joked “that the players spend more time in aeroplanes than on the training pitch.”

How much Bayern’s thrilling win in Belgrade has taken out of the players remains to be seen. 2-1 down with five minutes remaining, goals from Miroslav Klose and Toni Kroos sealed an unlikely win for Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side.

In the Bundesliga this season Bayern look unstoppable. They have now faced all of the teams currently in the top seven and nobody has got close to taking three points off of them. Four wins and two draws against the likes of Werder, Hamburg, Karlsruher, Schalke, Hannover and Leverkusen shows just how difficult it will be for Dortmund on Sunday.

Never in Bundesliga history has a side had such a positive goal difference at this stage of the season. Bayern have scored 27 and conceded only 4. Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose both have eight goals apiece, while Dortmund have only scored 16 collectively.

TEAM NEWS

Borussia Dortmund

Thomas Doll welcomes back Christian Wörns following suspension. He should return to the back four to partner Robert Kovac in the centre of defence. The only other absentees are long term injury casualties Sebastian Kehl and Alexander Frei.

Probable starting XI: Weidenfeller, Dede, Degen, Kovac, Wörns, Tinga, Kringe, Blaszczykowski, Federico, Petric, Klimowicz

Bayern Munich

Both Franck Ribery and Luca Toni remain doubtful for the match with Dortmund. The Frenchman was restricted to a light jog on Friday.

“We’ll have to wait and see if he can train tomorrow. If he can’t, he won’t play” Hitzfeld announced. Ribery sat out the game in Belgrade with a knee problem which first became troublesome after last weekend’s visit to Bochum.

Bayern are more hopeful that flu-victim Luca Toni will recover in time. Fellow flu sufferer Martin Demichelis will return to partner Lucio again in defence.

Hitzfeld has yet to decide whether to include Toni Kroos in the senior squad for Dortmund following his Uefa Cup heroics, or to send the youngster back to the reserves.

“He should aim to become a dominant figure in the reserves. If he achieves that, we might put him in the senior starting line-up every now and then” the General explained.

Probable Starting XI: Rensing, Lahm, Jansen, Lucio, Demichelis, van Bommel, Zé Roberto, Altintop, Schweinsteiger, Klose, Toni

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Borussia Dortmund-Mladen Petric

The Swiss-born Croatian international, who arrived from FC Basel in the summer has certainly made a big impact at the Signal-Iduna Park since his arrival. Six goals in his opening eight league games has made him the club’s leading scorer. All of his goals though have come as pairs with double strikes against Werder, Hertha Berlin and Leverkusen. Another double against Bayern on Sunday would surely give his team a marvellous chance of inflicting Bayern’s first defeat of the season.

Bayern Munich-Miroslav Klose

Klose this season, like Bayern, seems unstoppable. Eight league goals in eight league games has put him top of the goal scoring charts. Two goals on Thursday in the Marakanar put paid to the brave challenge of Red Star Belgrade. If you take Miro’s league, Uefa Cup and German Cup games, this season, his record is actually 11 goals in 10 games. He scored last season for Werder at the Signal-Iduna Park as Bremen won 2-0. Don’t bet against him repeating that on Sunday.

Bayern´s chance to extend lead as Bremen draw
BERLIN (AFP) - Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was happy with his side's 1-1 draw at Schalke 04 on Saturday despite the result giving Bayern Munich the chance to open an eight-point gap at the top of the table.

Bundesliga leaders Bayern are expected to pick up three more points against mid-table Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, with stars Luca Toni and Franck Ribery back from injury, and if Hamburg fail to win at Duisberg also on Sunday, the four-time European champions will have an eight-point lead at the top.

Werder's draw left closed the gap to five points.

"It was an intense game and both sides worked hard to try and get the winning goal," said Schaaf, whose side are second in the table and have lost just once in their last eight games.

"Both teams must be content with the result, but for us it was important we kept up our momentum."

An early free-kick by Carlos Grossmueller at Schalke's Veltins-Arena was cancelled out by a header from Bremen's Brazilian Naldo in an electric game with either side squandering numerous chances to steal the three points.

"Both sides could easily have won the game and there were so many opportunities in the second-half," said Schalke coach Mirko Slomka, whose side are fifth.

"I was a bit angry that we sat back once we went 1-0 ahead and became very defensive.

"It was a great game for the fans, but it wasn't a great result for us.

"Bremen are now three points ahead of us and that is something we wanted to avoid, but they deserved their point."

The two sides had contrasting fortunes in their midweek Champions League clashes with the Royal Blues of Schalke losing out 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, while Bremen were impressive in their 2-1 home win over Lazio.

But Schalke got off to a dream start when midfielder Grossmueller curled in a direct free-kick on 14 minutes.

Bremen came straight back into the game when Dusko Tosic's free-kick was crossed in and headed home by Naldo on 34 minutes.

Defending champions VfB Stuttgart managed to pick up some badly needed points when they beat midtable Bayer Leverkusen with a 1-0 win at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion.

Defender Andreas Beck scored in the 72nd minute as Stuttgart picked up their first Bundesliga points of the month as the win takes them up to 12th and breaks their run of five defeats.

"It is obvious we have some big problems after our defeats," said Stuttgart coach Armin Veh.

"I wanted my players to show some fighting spirit and that is what they did.

"Now and again, you need a bit of luck, but sometimes you have to work for it and make your own."

Hertha Berlin enjoyed a 2-0 win over VfL Bochum when defender Marcel Maltritz turned the ball into his own net in the first half before striker Marko Pantelic added the second on 35 minutes.

Wolfsburg are up to seventh in the table after their 3-1 home win over German Cup holders Nuremberg.

The visitors were 2-0 down at half-time after their Greek striker Angelos Charisteas turned the ball into his own net before Wolfsburg's Brazilian striker Grafite made it two on 34 minutes.

But Nuremberg, whose 5-1 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend was their first win in 10 games, struck back when midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic converted a penalty just after the half-time break.

Wolfsburg's German under-21 midfielder Ashkan Dejagah sealed the 3-1 win with a superb strike on 67 minutes as the home side dominated.

Bottom side Energie Cottbus drew 1-1 with Arminia Bielefeld thanks to an injury-time equaliser and Hansa Rostock drew 0-0 with fourth-placed Karlsruhe.

On Friday night, midtable Hanover and Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed out a 0-0 draw.
