It is the biggest form of compliment that you can get. One example was Petar Houbtchev who played in defence between 1996 and 2001. Today he is the coach of the U23. His name was chanted to the tune of "Whomp! There it is!" from the block G at the Waldstadion. More recently it was Du-Ri Cha who was the crowd`s favourite and he had his own song. Amanatidis song Now it is the "Amanatidis song" which is being sung at the Commerzbank-Arena. The crowd have borrowed the melodie from the Sesame Street song "Manamana" and changed the lyrics to "Amanaman". It is a way for the crowd to show their appreciation for the player. Amanatidis is loved in Frankfurt and he is someone the crowd can identify with as well as being a top player and striker. Eintracht star The man with the flowing locks has been one of the main reasons why Eintracht have not been relegated the past couple of seasons. His efforts and his goals have ensured that Frankfurt have not slipped back to the 2.Bundesliga. He was also a part of the side that reached the DFB Cup final in 2006 (0-1 against FC Bayern) and with that secured a UEFA-Cup spot, their first such adventure in eleven years. Good header, strong shot and quick He has so far banged in 30 goals to date for Eintracht. He is good in the air and has scored half of his goals this season with his head. He is also a good dribbler. He is quick off the mark and uses his intelligence to out fox opponents. All of these attributes make him Frankfurt`s most dangerous attacking weapon. Good fit Amanatidis fits in perfectly with Eintracht. He thinks highly of the club, "They are a fantastic club, with a long tradition, a great stadium and great fans. We have a good team also and I am certain that the future is bright. I like the area and the people. It is a good fit." He is someone that fights for every ball and works his socks off. The fans love him. He has played down the right but mostly as a striker either on his own or in tandem with Naohiro Takahara. Skipper Amanatidis has become a more important figure for Eintracht this season. The coach, Funkel, has trusted him with the captaincy. The Frankfurt coach says, "He is one of our best players. If he is fit then you can`t think about not playing him. He is under contract for the next three years and I was looking for continuity." The Greek leads by example. He is nearly always available to speak to the press after games. His word carries weight within the side. He has earned himself a good reputation in Frankfurt and he enjoys his life in the banking capital of Germany. Amanatidis wanted to return to Frankfurt Amanatidis played for Frankfurt in the 2003/2004 season but his six goals in 15 appearances failed to keep the side in the Bundesliga. He moved on to 1. FC Kaiserslautern but as soon as Frankurt regained their Bundesliga status he returned to the club. The transfer fee was money well spent. Amanatidis is now also very much a fixture in the Greek national side coached by Otto Rehhagel. Contract to 2010 "I have fought hard for a place in the side and now I intend to stay there", said the striker. The cup holders will defend their trophy in Euro 2008. As long as his contract runs you will always hear the "Amanatidis song" being chanted from the stands at the Commerzbank-Arena. |

What does that mean to you? Ioannis Amanatidis: It means a lot more responsibility, and also towards the team. You have to stand up for them in tough times, and I also have to be the go-between man for the squad, coaches and the club management. I need to represent the squad at any time and I must lead them on during a game. It's a great honour for me to be captain, and it's a task I relish. bundesliga.de: You left Greece and came to Germany aged nine. Do you consider yourself German, Greek or a mixture of both nationalities? Amanatidis: I believe I am a bit of both. After all, I've spent most of my life in Germany, but somehow I still do feel that I belong to my home country. That's underlined by the fact that I spend every summer and winter in Greece, and because I also play for the national team, Im there quite often. So yes, there is a strong connection to my homeland. bundesliga.de: How would you describe your attacking style of play? Amanatidis: Well, I think I can play in a variety of positions. I can play as a lone striker, or as part of a strike partnership, as I do with the Greek national team. My strengths are my mobility, my pace and maybe my agility. I see those aspects as my strongest attributes. bundesliga.de: You have a trademark long hairstyle and wear a headband. Is that all part of your image? Amanatidis: If you ask me that right now, I'd have to say it's all staying part of my style. But who knows how it might look sometime in the future? I don't know. But you could say that since I've been a professional football player, I've always had a long haircut. bundesliga.de: You're an idol to the Frankfurt fans, both as a cult player and as a leader. How do you cope with both roles? Can you live with that? Amanatidis: I feel comfortable with that, as I have with Frankfurt, straight from the day I joined. I have always said that the first time I was here, which was some three and a half years ago, I enjoyed a great six months. It's been exactly like that since my return to Eintracht in 2005. After all, in my career I have played most of my Bundesliga games and scored most of my league goals for Eintracht Frankfurt. This is the club that I can identify best with, and I feel attached to it. I simply feel great here, and that is why I decided to extend my contract last year. It runs until 2010, and I intend to fulfill it! |

After playing for his country in the qualifiers for the Copa América the midfielder was not active for last week's game at Bayern München. "He left the jetlag behind and is ready to go against Frankfurt. He will be part of our starting lineup," said Wolfsburg's coach Felix Magath. Santana out The VfL will have to play without Jonathan Santana, who has knee problems. Everyone else though is healthy. Magath also said that his team will play in next year's Licher Hessen Cup, an indoor football tournament, which takes place on January 4 in 2008 in Frankfurt. |

After three losses in a row, Felix Magath's squad failed to earn a much-needed win against Eintracht Frankfurt and had to settle for a 2-2 (1-1) draw. Despite having the lead twice off of goals by Christian Gentner (6th min.) and Edin Dzeko (48th min.), Wolfsburg were unable to come away with three points. Chris (35th min.) and Michael Fink (52nd min.) both equalised for Frankfurt. |

Christian Gentner headed the home side ahead on six minutes, but Wolfsburg were pegged back on 35 minutes when Chris headed in. Edin Dzeko put Felix Magath's side back in front three minutes into the second half, but were again unable to keep their advantage with Fink grabbing another equaliser on 52 minutes. There were no more goals as the spoils were shared. |

Question: Hello Marcelinho, the Wolves only took a point off Frankfurt in their home game. Why is your team only treading water at the moment? Marcelinho: After an unbeaten run of six games, we have fallen into a bit of a hole. Of course we had hoped that the Frankfurt gave had turned out differently, but newly-constructed teams will have phases where things don't go so well. We must make sure that we take points from our final two games before the winter break. Question: Edin Dzeko was brought on and scored against Frankfurt. Why is he such a super sub? Marcelinho: He adapts quickly after joining the game. I am sure that we will see many more goals from him and not only in the role as a substitute. Question: Surely maximum points are your goal for the last two games of the year... Marcelinho: Yes, although maximum points should be our goal for every game. |

VfB are in touch with the European places thanks to their fifth win in six matches. Ciprian Marica (26), Cacau (48) and Thomas Hitzlsperger (86) scored VfB's goals in the 3-1 victory, Edin Dzeko (51) replied for Wolfsburg. Replacing Simon Jentzsch in goal by Andre Lenz certainly didn't help Wolfsburg, and Lenz didn't look at his best when Marica opened the scoring with a close-range header from a corner. Cacau: goal and injury Cacau doubled Stuttgart's lead just three minutes into the second half, but Dzeko immediately pulled one back with what was Wolfsburg's 500th Bundesliga goal. Cacau was then substituted with a shoulder injury, but Hitzlsperger made sure of the win with a well-taken goal. |

For coach Felix Magath it was a miserable return to one of his many former clubs. The Wolves are now only 4 points off the dreaded drop zone with only one game to go before the winter break. As was the case in the 1-2 round 15 defeat to Dortmund, Stuttgart's coach Armin Veh was without his first choice striker Gomez, who was voted "player of the year" last season. Veh was also without Tasci and Khedira, who were replaced in the starting line-up by Osorio and Bastürk. VfL-coach Felix Magath chose to put Lenz between the Wolfsburg posts. Long serving keeper Jentzsch wasn't even in the squad. Magath preferred Karimov, Madlung and Dzeko to Quiroga, Dejagah and Munteanu. VfB almost opened the scoring within a minute of kick off, as Hitzlsperger curled the first corner of the game into the Wolfsburg penalty area. Delpierre headed just over the bar. The Wolves also threatened early on asd Marcelinho fired in from 16 metres out, only to see his effort well saved by Shäfer (4.). The home side crossed the Wolfsburg midfield line at pace, and created some useful chances early on. Cacau tested Lenz, before Meira somehow headed the rebound over the target (8.). After that, the central defensive duo of Madlung and Karimov began to settle down, preventing Stuttgart from threatening as much as they had done beforehand. On 20 minutes, a last ditch tackle by Hilbert denied Marceinho after he was nicely set up by Grafite. The game became bogged down in midfield and was on the whole a scrappy affair. It was no surprise then, that the opening goal came by way of a set piece. Pardo took a corner which was back headed by Meira to Marica, who easily nodded the ball home from close range. Lenz failed to come out to collect the ball and didn't look good at all. 1-0 to Stuttgart (26.). Wolfsburg tried their luck down the wings, but Magnin and Osorio usually nipped any danger in the bud. Grafite was as always busy, but was missing someone to pass to up front time and time again. The only chance worthy of note was a Ricardo Costa header which hit the side netting (39.). It simply wasn't enough to trouble the champions in their own back yard. The second half began in a turbulent way. In fact the half was only 3 minutes old as Osorio crossed to Cacau, who slid the ball home between the legs of Lenz to give the home side a 2-0 lead. The Wolves pushed forward and were rewarded for their efforts on 51 minutes. Magnin slipped inside his own area, allowing the Wolves midfielder on loan from Stuttgart Gentner to pass to Josue, who in turn fed Dzecko, who scored his second goal in as many games to make it only 1-2. It was the 500th Bundesliga goal for the Wolves (51.). The game continued to get bogged down and also became more volatile. The Wolves cleverly closed Stuttgart down in midfield and created some more scoring chances at the same time. On 72 minutes substitute Dejagah fired in a rocket of a shot, only to see Schäfer punch the ball clear. The Wolves began to get on top by winning the majority of their tackles. On 78 minutes, Dejagah fired just over the bar. It was to be the last Wolves chance of the game. Four minutes from time, the German international Hitzlsperger fired a fine shot home to calm the Stuttgart nerves and leaving Felix Magath to dream of what might have been. To add insult to injury, Grafite picked up his fifth yellow card. The Brazilian striker will miss the final home game of the year against Borussia Dortmund, who thrashed Arminia Bielefeld 6-1 on Friday night. |

Wolfsburg's first win in seven weeks gives them a little breathing room in the standings. Dortmund on the other side took a blow after two important wins in a row. |

Marcel Schäfer scored in the 8th minute. His hard shot slipped under Dortmund's keeper Roman Weidenfeller. Only three minutes later Weidenfeller allowed another tough one. After a pass from Schafer, a wide-open Ricardo Costa had no trouble scoring. Christian Gentner (59th) and Edin Dzeko (78th) scored Wolfsburg's other two goals. |
