I dont think he would get more playing time in liverpool also...Having Rise and Aurelio to compete with. At least in Man United he only has Evra..well you cant say anything about Silvestre..

Anyway if he really wants to go, let him go...hes 29. injury proned. only performed in his 1st season..and has nt been as impressive lately. Let the better Argentinian come in...Not much losses there..The only regret about this was that, Man United missed out on G.Bale and he would have been the perfect understudy for that left back spot.

I have lost ALL respect I ever had for Simao. He was once my favouite player, but now he can get fucked. If he had gone to one of the best teams in Europe, I'd take iton the chin and think ok, he's done his best for Benfica, he's given everything we just haven't won enough to make him stay. But the fact is, he's gone to a team I consider not better than Benfica. A team that is not even playing Champions League football, if Simao wants to be recognised as one of the best players in Europe, he needs to play in Europes premier competition. This shows a total lack of ambition, he could have furthered his career so much more at a team like Valencia and Liverpool who compete for honours every season. Now, it seems to me that he is a money-grabbing, selfish ****.

I never could have expected this of him, he has been loyal to Benfica throughout, been a great captain and could have ended up as being one of our real legends. I don't see that anymore, not after tthis when he's ditched us for a team like Atletico.

As I said, I would have taken it if he'd gone to a Real Madrid, Liverpool, etc, he didn't exactly lack suitors. But the fact that he has gone for money really disgusts me.

Wenger wants Roeder at Arsenal

Wenger wants Roeder at Arsenal
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Sacked Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder is being linked with a sensational move to Arsenal.
The Mail on Sunday says Wenger is considering hiring Roeder as Arsenal's new sporting director.
It was thought he might turn to a fellow Frenchman, with the names of former Arsenal scout Damien Comolli and ex-Gunners players Remi Garde and Gilles Grimandi being advanced, along with Wenger's friend Gerard Houllier, the former Liverpool manager.
Instead, Wenger wants to bring in an Englishman and Roeder fits the bill, with the knowledge of players gleaned during his time as boss at West Ham then Newcastle, from where he was sacked at the end of last season.

Portsmouth boss Redknapp: Liverpool can win title
tribalfooball.com - July 27, 2007

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp reckons Liverpool will be genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season. Rafael Benitez's side take on Pompey in the final of the Asia Trophy in Hong Kong Stadium on Friday evening.
And Redknapp is confident that after a summer of heavy investment, the coming campaign will not prove to be another false dawn for Reds supporters.
"I do think they will be contenders this year," he said.
"They're looking very strong. The backbone of the team is still Carragher and Gerrard, two homegrown players, but they've added a lot of quality again and will be a lot closer to Manchester United and Chelsea.
"Tottenham are a team that could push into the top four this year as well if anyone's going to. They've got that bigger squad and have spent a lot of money over the last couple of years so they'll be very strong.
"West Ham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, they'll all improve, but I think everyone will have a go this year.
"We'll try to improve on what we did last season. We finished ninth and missed out on Europe on the last day of the season, but I think with this squad the aim is to get a European place this year and I think it's possible.
He added: "I'm quite happy with the squad.
"Unlike other years where we've been desperate to get players in just to have half a chance, we're strong this year. If I can add a bit extra, I will, but I've got to find the right player."

New West Ham captain Neill determined to silence doubters
tribalfooball.com - July 27, 2007

Lucas Neill is determined to fulfil expectations after being named new West Ham United captain yesterday. Australia international Neill was criticised after his January decision to walk out on Blackburn and turn down the chance of European glory with Liverpool for a reported £70,000-a-week salary with the relegation-strugglers.
To make matters worse the defender was injured in his first match for the Hammers, missed three of the next four games and looked like sliding into the Coca-Cola Championship until their miraculous late escape.
But manager Alan Curbishley, who attacked the 'Baby Bentley', rich-kid culture among top players when he took over at Upton Park just before Christmas, has named Neill as his new captain.

Redknapp hails Portsmouth keeper James after Asia Trophy triumph

Redknapp hails Portsmouth keeper James after Asia Trophy triumph
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Harry Redknapp once again hailed David James after he turned in another impressive display to help Portsmouth lift the Asia Trophy on Friday. After a goalless 90 minutes against Liverpool, James denied both Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun from 12 yards as Pompey held their nerve to triumph in the pre-season tournament in Hong Kong that also featured Fulham and local side South China.

But it was during normal time that the 36-year-old truly excelled - a fantastic reflex stop to keep out a powerful close-range header from Dirk Kuyt in the first half and one almost as good to deny Torres in the second the highlights of another impressive display.
And his exploits in keeping the Reds at bay not only earned him the player of the tournament award but also another glowing endorsement from his boss.
"It's what I always say, he is the best goalkeeper in England and we're very fortunate to have him," enthused Redknapp.
"I spoke to Dave Beasant, who was a great goalkeeper and is the goalkeeping coach at Fulham, and he said he's worth 15 points for the team and he is not exaggerating - he is that good."

Portsmouth win Asia Trophy as Torres, Benayoun miss from spot

Portsmouth win Asia Trophy as Torres, Benayoun miss from spot
tribalfooball.com - July 27, 2007

Portsmouth have won the Asia Trophy, beating Liverpool 4-2 on penalties after the game had finished goalless. Summer signings Fernando Torres, who only received international clearance to play before the game, and Yossi Benayoun both missed crucial penalties to hand Pompey the pre-season trophy in Hong Kong.
Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt did convert for the Reds from the spot before Nico Kranjcar's strike past Jose Reina sealed victory for Harry Redknapp's side.

Liverpool boss Benitez happy with Hong Kong campaign

Liverpool boss Benitez happy with Hong Kong campaign
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez was delighted with their Hong Kong campaign. Speaking after Friday's Asia Trophy Final defeat, the Spaniard revealed the trip had helped not only fitness, but also team spirit.
"It's disappointing to lose but it has been a useful tournament for us," Benitez said. "The players have shown their levels, we've had some competitive matches, training has been good and the players have bonded well.
"We have to improve but the team is playing well and creating chances. We had plenty of possession and chances against Portsmouth, I just think we need to be fitter."

Portsmouth boss: Nugent will get Premiership goals
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is confident David Nugent will get goals in the Premiership. "David's going to be all right, he needs time," Redknapp said.
"It was a tough game (against Liverpool), he was playing against two very good central defenders. "It takes time for players to bed in, John Utaka needs it as well.
"It's a big step up in class to what they've played before for one or two of them and hopefully they'll adjust very quickly."

Portsmouth boss Redknapp: Liverpool can win title
