United agree Ramsey fee

Manchester United agreed an undisclosed fee to sign Welsh starlet Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Ramsey, 17, will now discuss personal terms and undergo a medical with the Premier League and European champions.

United confirmed the deal in a statement on their website which read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to terms being agreed and the player passing a medical."

Ramsey has made just 16 appearances for Cardiff but United manager Sir Alex Ferguson regards the midfielder as the best young talent in Britain and moved quickly to make him his first close-season signing.

The Wales Under-21 international, whose boyhood idol was United winger Ryan Giggs, became the youngest player in Cardiff history when he made his debut aged 16 against Hull in April 2007.

Ramsey helped Dave Jones's side reach the FA Cup final this season and came on as substitute for the final 30 minutes of the Bluebirds' 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth at Wembley.

He was called into the Wales squad for their recent friendlies against Iceland and the Netherlands, but has yet to make his full debut.
