Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Shawky is yet to make his debut for Boro in official games. The Egyptian made it to the bench twice so far but he never came on. However, the former Ahly central midfielder played for the reserves team in their away clash with the reserves of the Scottish side Rangers.
Shawky played in the heart of midfield and saw 45 minutes of action. The Egyptian had an early effort on goal but his shot went wide and also he provided some key passes to the Korean forward Dong Gook.
Some of the experienced players from both sides particip[ated in the game. The former England international and former Boro centre back Ugo Ehiogo played for Rangers reserves while Boro experienced players Huth and Pogatetz played the full 90 minutes in order to get back to their fitness levels after coming back from long term injuries.
Boro scored both of their goals in the first half that Shawky participated in. The first goal came after a fine assist by the Korean international Dong Gook who crossed the ball to Hines and the latter found the net.
After a few minutes, Boro extended their lead through Goulon who fired a strong shot from way out, the ball was deflected off a defender and went onto the back of the net to make the score 0-2 for Shawky's side.
ade their comeback after long term injuries

Boro continued to impress with Shawky on and almost added a 3rd goal before half time but the chance was wasted. During half time, Egyptian international Shawky came off and was replaced by Hutchinson. Boro also made some other changes in the 2nd half to test other players but Huth and Pogatetz remained on the whiole 90 mnutes.
Boro: Turnbull, Grounds (capt), Huth, Pogatetz, Hines, Walker (Bennett 80), Goulon (Thompson 55), Shawky (Hutchinson 46), Johnson J (Franks 80), Lee, Craddock. Unused sub: Atkinson (gk).
Rangers: Carroll, Broadfoot, Whittaker, Ehiogu (capt), Faye, Hemdani, Cousin, Thompson, Darcheville, Novo, Adam

Boro's coach Gareth Sougate decided to hit out at rumours that circulated lately and linked Shawky with a move out of Boro. It was claimed that Shawky didn't impress his manager but the latter backed his player in an interview with the club official website.

Southgate: Shawky player for the future
Southgate started with explaining why the Egyptian didn't play with the first team yet:
"He's only been here a couple of months and it's been a very difficult period for the team," said Southgate. "I haven't felt it right to put him in yet and he totally understands that.
"He's taken a little while to settle in to the speed of the game. But he's still a very young player and we're trying to slowly bed him in to English football.
The Boro manager added that Shawky is making progress in training:
"We're very pleased with what he's done up to now, we think he's getting stronger and improving all the time.
However, he stressed that Shawky will have to be patient as the club already have many players in his place and this might delay his introducing him to the starting line-up.
"He's just having to be a bit patient because we have a lot of competition for places at the moment in the area of the field he plays in."
Southgate sees Shawky a player for the future and that the Egyptian knows that his chance will come.
"His training is very good, when I've spoken to him about the decision he totally accepts it and wants the team to do well.
"I'm very pleased with what he's done and I've spoken to him at length and explained why he hasn't been involved.

The Boro coach also added that it was hard to introduce new players while the club is on a bad form.
"With the team not doing so well it's hard to throw people into the fray straight away and, as we've seen with the likes of Tuncay and others who come from aboard, it takes people time to adapt.
"He's been in and around the squad for us and we're hoping he can make that step up soon.
"We think he's adjusting very well, he realises that as a strong player in the league he was playing in that doesn't necessarily follow into the Premier League because it's a different style, all the players are fast and the games very intense.
"He can see that in the training sessions and even the reserve games he has played in.
"You can see that he's an intelligent player and he's got qualities. In more recent weeks it's just been a case of George Boateng and Fabio Rochemback have been outstanding and we've got Julio Arca coming back from injury so that area of the field is very strong for us."
"He understands he's here not just for a couple of months but for the longer term and he wants to know all the time what he has to do to get into the side, which is great.
"He's very keen to make a success of his move to England and these things take time.
"He's still a young player, he enjoys living here and wants it to work out and given time we will see a player there."
According to these comments from Southgate, Shwky will remain a Boro player at least this season. The Egyptian will unlikely get involved in games though before the ACN. However, he may get his chance in the 2nd half of season...
