Adu scores a Penalty and in Penalty kicks scores.
Freddy Adu scored 2 goals on penalty shots one to tied the game
So ironic the way that it's Adu who saved us. My opinion of him still hasn't changed though and we were awful last night he was probably our best player on the pitch. I am grateful to him that we stayed in another competition.
I have some pretty high hopes for this player. I like what he brings us. I would rather see him in there than Nuno.
I agree 100%
Why? He scores one penalty and all you guys are raving about him. He sucks.
LOl i don't think he's ready for that yet. Maybe in a year or 2![]()

PLFreddy Adu selected for USA
Even though he has not played regularly since he arrived at Benfica, the young American star has been called up to represent the US for a friendly against Switzerland on the 17th October in Basel.
Freddy Adu has only been capped once, but Bob Bradley opted to call the Benfica forward along with 4 other players which were present in the u21 World Cup last summer in Canada.
All training sessions for Adu's national team will occur in Switzerland, saving the forward from any long duration flights.

Adu's Magic
OJOGO ONLINE
Adu got a scare yesterday he almost broke his face or whatever.. All I know is he got kicked in the face.
Adu's big step forward
SL Benfica's new No30 may not have been in Europe for three months yet, but he already has a firm grasp of the tradition he is entering into. "Yeah, I knew the history. I know Benfica is the best sporting club in the world – it's in the Guinness Book of Records [for having the largest number of members]. It's a big club, man!" But then again, Freddy Adu is more familiar with making history than your average 18-year-old.
Benfica chance
It was Adu's performances as United States captain at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup this summer – including the hat-trick against Poland that made him only the second player to hit trebles in both Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups – that helped persuade the Portuguese champions to spend €1.5m on him. But so long has he been fêted as a future megastar, it is difficult to take in the fact that Adu is still only 18.
Youngest professional
Having moved to the United States at the age of eight with his family from his native Ghana, Adu was attracting the attention of European sides such as FC Internazionale Milano by the time he was starring in US junior tournaments at the age of 12. At 14, he became the youngest professional sportsman in the US for over 100 years when he was picked first in the Major League Soccer 2004 Super Draft, signing a four-year deal with DC United.
'Big step'
DC United were also his local MLS team – he was brought up in Potomac, Maryland, a town just outside of Washington DC – so the youngster could continue to live in the family house as he adjusted to life in professional football. He's a long way from home now. "It's obviously a big step coming from America," admits Adu. But the thrill of the challenge has killed any homesickness, and he has adapted quickly. "I mean, this is European football, and I'm loving it. I'm enjoying myself. The level is very high and I've adjusted to it pretty well. It took me about two weeks to adjust to it."
Nerveless
Adu showed just what a quick learner he is when making his domestic debut for Benfica, in the Portuguese Cup away to CF Estrela da Amadora. With the Lisbon side a goal down and facing an embarrassing early exit, Adu nervelessly converted an injury-time penalty to save their skins. He later scored again with the first kick of the penalty shoot-out, which Benfica eventually won.
Patient
Four days later, he made his Liga debut in the derby against Sporting Clube de Portugal and almost made a telling late contribution again, when he was brought down in the penalty area after a mazy run, only for the penalty appeal to be turned away. Yet Adu is willing to bide his time to secure a starting place. "You have to respect your coach's decisions, and I do," he insists. "I just have to keep working hard and when I get the chance, try and make a difference."
Learning curve
He is candid enough to confess, however, that he was disappointed to miss out on making his UEFA Champions League group debut in the Matchday 2 clash with FC Shakhtar Donetsk. "Everyone wants to play in a UEFA Champions League match, and I would have loved to have got on, especially in a home game." The young American is using every experience to his advantage. A few days after the Shakhtar match, Rui Costa told the Portuguese press he expected the current season to be his last one playing. Adu is determined to make the most of lining up with one of the stars of Portugal's Golden Generation while he can. Despite being in the twilight of his career, Rui Costa has started off the campaign in sparkling form.
'Best of the best'
"These guys are the best of the best. Rui Costa's one of the best players to have ever played the game in that position. I've been studying him closely, and I want to be as successful as he has been." At a club that twice won the European Champion Clubs' Cup twice in the 1960s, Adu is not short of other examples to aspire to. "There've been some great players who've played here, like Eusébio. It's great to be a part of a tradition like this, it really is."
Adu hopes national team will boost his Benfica career
Freddy Adu has been mostly on the second tier at Benfica and has played only 64 minutes over two months and half. 18-year old hopes good stint in the national team could boost his chances at Portuguese giants.
Adu's career at Benfica had a promising start after the 18-year old American prodigy made his debut in the 37th minute of a Champions League qualifier against Copenhagen, but saw his playing time drastically decreased after the arrival of a new coach Spaniard Jose Antonio Camacho. Adu now hopes that successful stint in the national team could boost his club career, while his USA team mate DaMarcus Beasley advises him to stay patient and wait for his chance: "Freddy is a great talent. He just needs to keep his head straight and not get too down on himself, and when he gets his chances to take them."
Adu has played just once for the US national team, entering as an 81st-minute substitute in an exhibition against Canada Jan. 22, 2006. At 16, he was the youngest player in the history of the national team.
Adu made his Major League Soccer debut with D.C. United as a 14-year-old, one of the youngest American athletes to perform professionally. He has struggled but also shown flashes of talent - he scored three goals for the US team 6-1 rout of Poland at last summer's FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
