Everton make new cash, player offer for Wigan's Baines

Everton make new cash, player offer for Wigan's Baines
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Everton boss Dave Moyes has made a new offer to Wigan Athletic for fullback Leighton Baines. The Mirror says Moyes has offered £4million, plus the choice of a squad man, in a bid to sign Baines from Wigan.
And while Wigan have demanded that Everton pay the £6million that Sunderland were prepared to offer, Moyes is hopeful they will take less cash plus a player for the lifelong Everton fan.
Wigan chief Chris Hutchings would take Lee Carsley, who snubbed his club in favour of staying at the Blues when he was a free agent a couple of months ago.

Portsmouth signing Nugent raps Sunderland's Keane

Portsmouth signing Nugent raps Sunderland's Keane
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

New Portsmouth signing David Nugent has taken a swipe at Sunderland boss Roy Keane. Keane felt Nugent had spent too long considering a move to Sunderland and withdrew his offer. But the player responded last night by saying he had every right to take time over the biggest decision of his career.

"I wanted some time to speak to my family about it. I don't think there was anything wrong in that - most players would have done the same," said Nugent.
"Roy Keane took it the wrong way. He withdrew his bid without saying anything and that was that.
"It was disappointing for me because I had taken the time to talk with them but I don't have any regrets about what happened because I have joined Portsmouth.
"Harry Redknapp made me feel wanted. He didn't try to rush me into anything. We spoke, he showed me around and told me about his plans for the club and then told me to go away and think about it.
"Once you speak with Harry, it's very difficult to say no. I suppose that comes through years of experience in dealing with footballers, something that Roy Keane has yet to gain as a manager.
"I didn't snub Sunderland - it was the other way round."

Evans happy to stay with Man Utd

Evans happy to stay with Man Utd
tribalfooball.com - July 28, 2007

Jonny Evans is targeting a first team breakthrough at Manchester United this season - and a Premiership winner's medal.
Evans admits he could easily have returned to Sunderland for another season on-loan, but explained to PA Sport: "Roy [Keane] wanted me back but Sir Alex wanted me here. "It's a win-win situation. If I'd gone to Sunderland I'd get a year in the Premiership; if I stay here I'm involved with the biggest club in the world and learn from fantastic players. "I hope Sir Alex says I play for United this season. I'm a United fan and I want the team to win as many trophies as they can and hopefully I'll be lifting one of them by the end of the season. But my main aim is to try and improve."

According to the club official website, Hossam Ghaly will not be transferred to Birmingham City due to footballing reasons. On the other side, Spurs have confirmed that the Egyptian himself decided not to complete his move to Blues.

After the surprising move of Mido to Sunderland, his compatriot Hossam Ghaly became in the spotlight this afternoon as his transfer from Tottenham to Birmingham City has been cancelled.

According to the Birmingham official webpage, the reasons were "Footballing reasons" which is a pretty vague statement from the club.

Such statement allowed speculations and rumours to start, some sources claimed that the Egyptian couldn't obtain a work permit and this was the reason beyond the collapse of his transfer.

However, obtaining a work permit does not fall under footballing reasons by any mean.

It was also rumoured that the Egyptian was involved in a massive row between the players during training this morning and Bruce had to dismiss him from training. However, these are all mere speculations and EP cannot confirm or deny this at the time being

According to Spurs website, Ghaly was the one who didn't want the transfer to go through so it is clear that something happened in the very previous hours that resulted in him not willing to play for Blues.

The whole situation is unclear at the time being, but EP will try to get more updates as the story unfolds...

Ahmed Hossam may well make a significant decision on his future today, according to Sunderland manager Roy Keane. The Egyptian is also in talks with Middlesbrough, it has been revealed. In the mean time, Birmingham manager Steve Bruce admits that he is sad not to have Hossam Ghaly in his side.

Blues:

Birmingham City have continued their interest in the striker. Steve Bruce spoke sarcastically of Hossam Ghaly, refering to him as "Mr Ghaly", and indicating that Blues had never lost their interest in his compatriot Mido. In the mean time, Spurs are having to be patient with the newly promoted club.

"It has been difficult for the last couple of weeks, especially with Spurs after what happened with Mr Ghaly," said Bruce.

"But our offer has always been there for Mido," he continued.

The Birmingham manager contemplated the Ghaly deal which simply went wrong. "It was just disappointing because all summer I'd tracked him," he said, before praising the Egyptian's footballing abilities and dubbing the saga both "horrible" and "sad".

"I know what happened but at the end of the day I've lost a really good midfield player.

"It was a horrible end because a lot of people did a lot of work on the deal.

"It was sad but the plain fact is he didn't want to be here."

Boro:

At Middlesbrough, Yakubu Ayegbini is about to head to Everton, and Gareth Southgate is keen on securing a deal for Mido.

Boro are ready to spend £6 million and are in talks with the Egyptian striker, who had revealed to a London paper that he has interest from three clubs.
Black Cats:

And on Thursday morning Sunderland manager Roy Keane stressed that he believes this is the decision day for Mido, at least as far as accepting or rejecting Sunderland is confirmed.

As EP had reported, Sunderland did make an offer. Tottenham have accepted it, but it is now time for Mido to decide.

Keane commented: "I'm convinced we'll have an answer from Mido today. I met with the player over the weekend, he's had a few days to think about it and as usual there are one or two other clubs interested.

"We're hopeful that he will make the right choice and to me the right choice would be to come to Sunderland.

"Things are agreed with Spurs, that's not the issue.

"The issue is whether the player wants to come and play for Sunderland. We'll wait and see. Whatever decision he makes, we'll respect it."

this transfer stuff is really amazing one sec u think that the deal is gonna be done and another its ruined

Mido is set to move to Middlesbrough for a surprise price-tag of almost 80 million Egyptian Pounds.

Boro manager Gareth Southgate said both parties - the club and player - are "keen" on completing the move.

It is thought that Sunderland offered a higher sum to Tottenham Hotspur through installments, but that the Egyptian himself chose to sign for Middlesbrough.

The club hope to seal the deal with Spurs this week, with Birmingham City seemingly out of the fight to land Hossam.

Boro lost their first game of the season to Blackburn Rovers but showed some decent attacking potential through their new Turkish signing Tuncay Sanli and Nigerian Yakubu Ayegbini.

The nightmare continued for Spurs in their home match versus Everton. After a shaky start on Saturday vs Sunderland, Spurs continued to Stutter as they are lost at home by three goals to one. Ghaly still not in Jol's plans despite the poor form of his side.

While Mido had a medical with Boro yesterday and everything is set for completing his transfer deal withing the next few hours, his compatriot Hossam Ghaly remains as a Spur for the time being.

Despite this, Ghaly never made the bench in the opening match versus Sunderland and he wasn't selected for last night's encounter with Everton too. It seems either Ghaly is out of Jol plans or he is not fully fit to start games.

Martin Jol admitted that Ghaly did very well last season and exceeded the expectations as he assisted more than any other midfielder. But the Dutch coach is yet to make use of the Egyptian.

Yesterday, Tottenham played at home and fans were full of hope to win their first three premiership points this season. However, Jol's questionable team selection and tactics had negative effects on the team and they lost heavily by three goals to one.

Jol's tactics included starting with Robbie Keane behind the two forwards Berbatov and Darren Bent. The Irish international couldn't play the role of the support man well and the midfield lacked all forms of creativity.

On the other hand, Spurs defense looked quite shaky especially with absence of Ledley King and Michael Dawson.

It took Everton just a couple of minutes to take the lead through a well placed header by Lescott. However, Tottenham equalized through a carbon copy goal which was scored by the central defender Gardner.

Tottenham continued their pressing after the goal but Everton remained dangerous through their counter attacks which were led by Michael Arteta.

The latter crossed the ball into the box and it was headed behind by the sub Rocha (who came on to replace the injured Kaboul), the ball fell to Osman who controlled the ball on his chest and sent it home with his left to make the score 1-2 in the 37th minute.

In the 45th minute, the match turned to a real nightmare for Tottenham as Stubbs struck a freekick from way out totake a wicked deflection off the foot of Zokora and end its path into the back of the net to make the score 1-3 for the guests.

The second half didn't include any goals but there were some real chances for both sides. From Spurs side, Berbatov hit the bar with a powerful header while the substitute Defoe almost scored from a volley shot but the goalkeeper saved his attempt.

On the other hand, Robinson made a couple of good saves for chances from Everton and the game ended in a 1-3 home loss for the Spurs.

It is expected that Jol will make changes in his tactics in the cmoning matches and this might include the return of Ghaly as a right midfielder. However, nothing is certain yet and the Egyptian's best option at the time being is to leave White Heart Lane.
