Keane axes eight at Sunderland

Sunderland manager Roy Keane released eight players including former Manchester United striker Andy Cole on Wednesday.

Keane wants to freshen up his squad and has opted to axe Cole, Republic of Ireland left-back Ian Harte, Stanislav Varga and Stephen Wright, as well as youngsters Jack Pelter, Gavin Donoghue, Billy Dennehy and Jake Richardson.

Trinidad midfielder Dwight Yorke is still in negotiations with the club over a new contract.
