Roberto Carlos: Beckham will be England skipper

Roberto Carlos believes Fabio Capello will make David Beckham his England captain.


The veteran Brazilian, who played under the Italian in both his spells at Real Madrid, insists Capello was not to blame for Beckham's marginalising at the Bernabeu last season after he revealed his plan to join the Los Angeles Galaxy.


Carlos claims Capello was made to carry the can for a decision which was made above his head - and then made a conscious decision to disobey his employers by recalling the midfielder later in the season.

And he said: 'There were no bad feelings because he (Beckham) knew it wasn't Capello's fault.

'Now, I am sure that Capello will select Beckham for England - 100% sure.

'He will call David and I think he will make him his captain.'

Carlos believes Capello will get England winning again - but has warned fans not to expect excitement.

'England need victories, results, and that he will give them,' he said in The Observer.

'There will be no spectacle, it will be 1-0, 1-0, 1-0.

'But the team will be there, correctly set up and balanced on the pitch. And always winning.'

Carlos added: 'I don't know if England will win the World Cup in 2010, but they can make it to the finals. No doubt about that.'

: I agree with Carlos. I would also agree with that decision because Beckham is the most experienced man England has.

Nice supportive words from carlos. I think John Terry makes better England Captain. I do hope Beckham is in Capellos plans. No one can supply play and accurate passes like beckham. And when you have fully fit lampard and gerrard aswell, England dictates play waybetter which has been missing in qualifying.
