Capello: Captaincy is down to two

Quote:
Fabio Capello has revealed his shortlist for the England captaincy is down to two names. Capello has given the job to five players in his four matches, with Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, David Beckham and Gareth Barry all wearing the armband.

But the Italian will choose between two over the close-season and announce the appointment ahead of England's first 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifier against Andorra in September. Chelsea skipper Terry led England under Capello's predecessor Steve McClaren and is thought to be one of the two possibilities, with Manchester United star Ferdinand the other front-runner.

"I haven't decided who (will be captain), but I have two ideas. It is down to two. That is all I am saying," Capello said.

"The captain must be a leader and he must lead on the pitch and set an example on the pitch. When he speaks, the players have to listen to him."
