Dean Ashton has admitted his disappointment at his England 'injury nightmare'. The West Ham striker sustained suspected medial knee ligament damage in The Hammers' 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and is a doubt for England's forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers. Ashton underwent scans to diagnose the extent of the injury on Sunday and will find out the results on today.

Dean Ashton has been ruled out of England's Euro 2008 qualifiers with Estonia and Russia. Ashton has been forced to withdraw from the squad after picking up an injury in West Ham's defeat at Aston Villa at the weekend. The former Crewe hit-man sustained a medial knee ligament injury and he faces a few weeks on the sidelines.

Solano unfazed by Hammers role

But the 32-year-old is refusing to panic about his lack of involvement.

"I am not worried about that I haven't played any game yet at West Ham. I have a lot of experience in football," said Solano as he arrived in Peru ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Paraguay.

"It's true, I am not playing but I am calm about that.

"I don't forget that the championship has just started in England and I have a lot of experience in football and in the national team.

"I have even spoken with the coach of Peru and he told me to be calm."

Speaking about the forthcoming Paraguay clash, Solano added: "The first match is very important because it's the first one and because it's against a tough team like Paraguay so we have to win.

"It's going to be very difficult but I hope that things get sorted out correctly for us."

Reading boss Steve Coppell admits he will need to spend big in January, with Portsmouth's David Nugent thought to be top of his shopping list.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, Coppell is considering a move for Pompey striker Nugent, who only joined the club from Preston in the summer, but has struggled to break into Harry Redknapp's first team.

Coppell is also thought to be keen on West Ham midfielders Hayden Mullins and Mark Noble, but admits he will have to pay over the odds to secure the players he wants.

He said: "It's a limited market for us because of the perception of Reading. But it's amazing how money talks.

"It can be very persuasive and we accept we will have to pay more than the going rate.

"We must strengthen our squad in January because we want to be a real player rather than a bit-part in this league."
